Sorry for the short week… hopefully the next one goes a bit better. And now, a scene related to a different kind of mushroom.
Pete: “There are five different types of chairs in this hotel room.”
Ben Stone: “Holy f**k! What are they all doing in here?”
Pete: “These are five different types of chairs.”
Ben Stone: “Get ’em outta here, man. This is too many chairs for one room.”
Pete: “There’s a guy that works for this hotel, his whole job is to find chairs. Look at this one. Look at it, it’s gold, and red and it’s kinda shiny, shiny thread… unbelievable… it is beautiful. And it feels… amazing.”
Ben Stone: “The tall one’s gawking at me, and the short one’s being very droll. I don’t like them.”

About this image: digital photograph, lightly modified
That’s gorgeous. You should do a whole vegetable alphabet (possibly a really confusing one, starting with “A is for mushroom”).
Now that sounds like fun, Laura!
If only I weren’t such a Z word (*lazy*)!
Seriously, though… I might try that some day!
🙂
HA! Yes! I absolutely agree with this.
And the thing is–I think you could actually get parents to buy it for their kids despite the confusion, SIG, based on the quality of this picture. It looks like a magazine shot!
Seconding and thirding that suggestion – what a great picture book for kids it would be!
I had a bad case of agaricus bisporis once, but the doctor gave me a cream and I didn’t wear shoes for a couple days and it cleared up.
Sounds like fun…
if only I could knock a few chapters out of my idea book first! It’s turning into an epic novel!
Hahaha… I don’t understand why the grocery store doesn’t just save us all the trouble and put the agaricus bisporus right next to the pharmacy… save everyone a little roaming around time…
🙂
Hahaha… gotta keep them coming back somehow, U.M…
more Kool-Aid, anyone?
🙂
Ah mushrooms….. the perfect vegetable. Can’t understand people who don’t like ’em
I have always liked them, too, N.M…
I don’t pick my own, though…
(knowing me I’d grab something pretty toxic)!
🙂
Or terrifically hallucinogenic.
Red.
Hahaha…
many thanks, Red!
🙂
or horrendously poisonous 😦
The room is spinning, Loon!
😮
Well Done! Looks like a cover on a delicious mushroom recipe book!
Thank you very much, Mr. H!
I could use that book, too!
My cooking skills are… well… lets just say the Michelin Stars aren’t exactly piling up over here!
🙂
Wow!!! You’ve brought the mushroom alived! 😀 Hello, Bella! You’re so cool!
Thank you so much, Cristina!
I think it’s waving back at you!
🙂
Beautifully done! 🙂
Many thanks, Ms. F!
🙂
Cool graphic layout and the detail in the mushroom is beautiful.
And the chair dialogue! I do so like chairs. If I had a big house I might have a multitude of them, few matching and then take photos of them conversing.
And I wouldn’t need any ‘special’ mushrooms. 🙂
Me, either, S.E… I am wild enough on my own accord!
(I just included that because I thought it was a funny scene in general… and I couldn’t think of much else to go with this one at the time.)
🙂
I wasn’t making any judgement about the use of ‘special’ mushrooms. Like you I have enough (sometimes too much) going on in my head already without further confusion! And I liked the dialogue, I found it funny and then went off into my own reverie of chairs.
Oh, I know, S.E…
I hope I didn’t imply that… I know you wouldn’t be judgmental! I wasn’t trying to be, either… just trying to be silly!
🙂
Oh my, we are both tripping (ha!) over our own politenesses! 😀
Hahaha… I think I smashed my nose on the floor!
🙂
Thank you very much, S.E.!
I originally wanted to do something a bit different, but I couldn’t find anything with a long enough stem (at the moment, anyway)…
Chairs are very cool, aren’t they…
I had a buddy who had some German 1920s chrome and black leather ones… (like
these
) I always hoped he’d be looking to get rid of them (so I could volunteer to take them)!
🙂
LOVE this! I agree that this SCREAMS for an entire series. Would look fantastic matted, framed and hung on a restaurant wall! 🙂
Thank you so much, M.P.!
You wouldn’t believe how long I played around with this… as you can see graphic design isn’t my forte, so it always takes quite a bit of experimentation…
🙂
Hey, the BEST results often do. I encounter the very same thing….,must be the perfection complex in both of us. 😉
I guess that’s true, M.P…
good thing I’ve got a long way to go then, I guess (that’s what I’ll tell myself, anyway)!
🙂
I like the simple, graphic feeling – the harsh shadow compliments the graphic feeling.
Thank you very much, J.P.!
I tried shooting this one in a soft-box, too, but in the end I decided I liked the more dramatic lighting (I usually tend to prefer it, it seems…)
🙂
That mushroom is a thing of beauty….all those lines, etc 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Thank you so much, Mary!
Those lines are what drew me to this…
🙂
How’d you manage all those lines?…This beautiful mushroom make me want a pizza for dinner. I can’t wait so maybe a egg, cheese and mushroom omelet .
Excellent work, Sig!
Glad your back!
Hugs, xx
They’re kind of interesting, aren’t they, Deb? Almost remind me of a radiator grill… or some other kind of mechanical housing in a way…
Thank you very much, Ms. A!
I sincerely appreciate that!
🙂
I agree; you should do a whole series (alphabet or not) – AND SELL THEM@!!!!! Please Inky, you really truly must open an etsy store. !!!!
Thank you so much, Dishy!
I might try something some day… but not until I’m better able to support everyone all my blogging / webcomic / photography friends who are put out such great stuff, too…
(plus the procrastination gives me a bit more time to stumble across a few interesting things… fingers crossed, anyway)!
🙂
Opening an Etsy store is free, and fast. This photo is incredible. To think of all the time people spend setting up lights and bouncebacks trying to eliminate those harsh shadows – here, it is the contrasting element which sets the simple, but perfect composition off.
Dude. Totally print and sell. It only costs 20 cents to post an item in your etsy store. My nephew opened up a site, while still in highschool, on “Letter photography”. He didn’t even take the pics, but a friend did. He was simply printing and mailing these out, and earned $200-300 a week – while in highschool, mind you – that’s an income of $800-$1200 a month, at 17 years old! It allowed him to go without a side job in college. He charged only $4.95 per print, plus shipping, and used his basic home-printer to produce them.
Plus, you have a fan base here already to support your efforts 😀
– o, forgot – he watermarked all prints on his website to prevent theft..
Watermarking… definitely understand why he’d want to do that.
It definitely might detour some folks.
Guess when mulling that one over I finally came to the conclusion (sadly) people will steal it if they set their mind to it. With the right software and a bit of time most watermarks can be killed pretty successfully. Staying low resolution probably helps. And if you sell a photo-quality print there’s your scan-n-scam right there. Almost seems like you can’t win for loosing! Although keeping the original as-shot / working files helps prove you are the owner, people can still be a real pain.
🙂
It’s funny you mention that, Spectra – I actually tried several lighting set-ups (and black / white backgrounds), but in the end, as you say, the simple solution grabbed my attention.
That’s great, Spectra! Good for him! Wow!
I guess what’s been holding me back is that I’m not really in a position to support everyone else’s work as much as I’d like to right now, so I’d feel awful about pushing mine. The other thing is I tend to be pretty type A about what I sell… I would never sell anyone anything I wouldn’t hang myself… which means pretty high photo-quality… and finding a good printer / learning how to use it properly (plus I’d be paranoid about getting prints shipped in mint condition). You’ve probably noticed I’m a bit… um… slow… so by the time I figured the whole process out I’d have spent a small fortune. Maybe someday, though… there’s no doubt your nephew’s story is very inspiring!
🙂
Wow. I cannot take my eyes off the lines of the mushroom. Amazing, SIG. So much beauty and art from a mushroom.
Why, thank you, Ms. D! I thought it was a rather handsome vegetable! I was initially trying to do something a bit different, but I think this worked out okay…
🙂
Just dropping by to play musical chairs. Whoa, there are too many chairs for this.
Hahaha! Yeah! It can be a pretty long game when the chairs outnumber the contestants!
🙂
A gloriously simple piece of art 🙂 Love the way you juxtaposed the angular letters against the circle of the mushroom!
Sorry Bob – I’d have to ruin it PDQ by slicing the Mushroom and having a fry-up! Can’t resist Mushrooms 😉
Thank you so much, Martin!
I was hoping I didn’t over-do it with the text… trying to keep it simple and I wound up using nearly the entire Myriad Pro font family!
Hahaha… I hear you! Tasty buggers, aren’t they?! I still have a few in the fridge (but not for long)!
🙂
How did you do this?
I tried a few set-ups, Mel, but in the end, the simple solution won out!
Just bright sunlight and some poster board
(and some of dodging / burning etc. in Photoshop)…
🙂
Wonderful photo . . . her’e a poem I wrote about a “funny fungus feeder” (who probably also got paranoid about the chairs):

Perfect meter, Nancy!
Thank you very much for sharing that link – I really enjoyed that!
🙂
i love that little mushroom shadow!!
At first I considered softening the lighting up a bit, but in the end the drama won me over…
🙂
How do you increase the living space in your home ?
Grow mushrooms in your basement.
How do you expand the living space in your home ?
Eat mushrooms from British Columbia .
Excellent image. I think that Alphabet idea is great. Hope you expand on it. 🙂
Hahaha…
sold! When does the truck arrive?!
Thank you so much, sir!
That is a pretty interesting idea, isn’t it?! My idea book is definitely not getting much shorter! I need to figure out how to work faster!
🙂
He SHOULD sell his work shouldn’t he!?!?!? (Also, I want to eat that mushroom.)
Hahaha…
Sorry… I already did
(actually I didn’t, because I left it sitting out in the sun for a few hours while I went through / edited the photo… looked a little… off…)
🙂
I agree, he definitely should sell his work. ( Even if I didn’t agree, I wouldn’t say so, I recognize that “wife voice” when I read it.) I will now go in the corner and sit with the mushrooms.
Hahaha…
‘wife voice’? Why… I have no idea what you are talking about!
I have never experienced such a thing!
*nod nod*
🙂
I love musrooms cooked, fresh in salad any way they taste great
I agree, Tony! They are a great healthy food (of course, they go pretty well with some of those unhealthier foods, too)!
🙂
I love this post my friend
Thank you so much, Jake!
(I’m sorry your last few comments got stuck in my spam folder… not sure why that happened… I need to be better about checking that)!
🙂
Hope it will be solve now or else i`m not commenting anymore in any post , i don`t Know what happen in my system thank you for telling me that 🙂
Hmmm… it seems to be working just fine, now. 🙂
I don’t think it’s the sort of thing that could harm anything… very annoying, though… sorry about that, Jake! My apologies again!
All these comments and no fungi joke??
You must have came in the side-door…
there’s complimentary cream available just over there…
🙂
Great shadow! Neat piece spilledinkguy 🙂
It’s often pretty ‘shady’ around here, you know!
Many thanks, Eden!
🙂
Your work amazes me!
Your kindness amazes me, Patti – I thank you!
🙂
Your photographs are always a fine treat SIG
and with the added bonus of a few lines from
Hollywood they add to the uniqueness of your
Space 🙂 Keep up the great work SIG 🙂

the envelope on creativity my good friend as
your inventiveness is truly unique 🙂
Be well my friend…
Androgoth
Thank you so much, A.G.!
And thank you for your great kindness, as always, my friend!
I will try… sometimes I’m afraid I might be taking things a bit too far and wind up pulling things back a bit… but it seems like there’s a nice balance out there somewhere (and I hope to find it someday, too)!
Have a good one, sir!
🙂
And then I bet you ate it! Poor subject.
I agree with the others, SIG. Your stuff is of a very high quality and could definitely find a market. Probably a big market. Have you ever tried submitting some of your stuff to poster and print companies?
Hahaha…
well… I didn’t want to be rude!
Thank you so much, sir! I don’t know… I guess I never thought about that. Maybe I could come up with the next big ‘hang-in there kitty’?!
🙂
I think Binky is hinting at a series of chocolate coated vegetables 🙄
It goes well with most fruit…
so…
you know…
maybe?!
🙂
I would like to cook curry, fry vegetables and spaggetti with it.
That sounds wonderful!
Is it lunch time yet?
Because I think I’m starting to get hungry!
🙂

I like mashrooms too 🙂
Have a wonderful Sunday Mr. SIG 🙂
I’m very happy to hear that, Ms. B!
Thank you! I hope that you had a wonderful Sunday as well!
🙂
I do not like mushrooms but I do like this photograph. great work.
I tend to like most of them, but I know you aren’t alone in your feeling, Nigel!
Why, thank you, sir!
🙂
It sounds like a gladiator wrote the text 🙂
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!
*in my best Rusell Crowe*
🙂
That’s one of the most stylish mushrooms I’ve seen in a long time SIG… Real nice..
Thank you very much, F.S!
That’s real nice of you to say, sir!
🙂
Love the mushroom! Now I’m hungry. Hope your weekend is great!
Hahaha…
sorry about that, Y.A.W…
I didn’t want to be the only one, you know!
Thank you so much – I hope you had a wonderful weekend, too!
🙂
what a cool click!
seriously a brilliant capture. i like the idea of the alphabet, even if you just got to A, B & C.
but no pressure 🙂
Thank you very much, P&K!
I might have to try that at some point!
If only I could finish all the projects I’ve already started!
It seems like I add at least 5 more ideas to my list every day!
I need to find a way to speed things up… maybe… more caffeine?! Couldn’t hurt, right?!
🙂
there you go – you already have a topic for your ‘C’ click.
Viva la Java!
A quick check of the fridge shows Cola levels are dwindling!
This would turn into an all out ‘P’anic (if I could just keep my eyes open)! 🙂
Damn fine graphic work again, SIG. This one pops.
Thank you so much, Bob!
Not exactly what I had in mind at first, but I think it turned out okay-ish… for the most part.
🙂
simply perfect!
Thank you very much, J.G.!
🙂
clear graphic, well composed!
Thank you, F.T.!
Graphic design isn’t my strong-suit, so it takes me quite a bit of experimentation to stumble on something I think I might like… although I do have a lot of fun in the process!
🙂
You have managed to turn something so simple and made it interesting SIG!
Many thanks, C.O.R.!
Sometimes when I start looking for a snack I wind up with a new shot instead!
🙂
