Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada

Here’s my latest painting (with apologies to the good people at Kodak, and the fabulous city of Las Vegas, Nevada).

Trent: “They’re gonna’ give daddy the Rainman suite, you dig that?”

Mike: “Do you think we’ll get there by midnight?”

Trent: “Baby, we’re going to be up five hundy by midnight!”

Mike: “Yeeeeaaaaahhhhhh!”

Trent: “Vegas baby! Vegas!”

Mike: “Vegas!”

- Vince Vaughn & Jon Favreau – Swingers

Anna and the D.I.Y. Beauty Dish

With epoxy combine the following: (1) Pre-drilled Peanut Butter Jar Lid and (1) Wood Dowel. Tape to lamp. Yield: (1) D.I.Y. Beauty Dish. Or you can build similar catchlights in about 4 clicks-worth of Photoshop (especially if you’re headed there to exaggerate the effect and/or your models freckles, anyway).

Simon Phoenix: “Illuminate!”

- Wesley Snipes – Demolition Man

Window Shopping

So… here is a painting… that… I… painted. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Shop assistant: “Hello, can I help you?”

Vivian Ward: “I was in here yesterday, you wouldn’t wait on me.”

Shop assistant: “Oh.”

Vivian Ward: “You people work on commission, right?”

Shop assistant: “Yeah.”

Vivian Ward: “Big mistake. Big. Huge. I have to go shopping now.”

- Dey Young & Julia Roberts – Pretty Woman

Mixed Resolutions

My latest painting… sorry the photo is a bit ‘off’ (‘computer issues’ and ‘operator issues’ don’t play well together). You get the idea, though. Kinda.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hansel (*holding computer above head*): “We’ve got thirty years worth of files, right here, in this computer, that are going to bring you down! (*throws / smashes computer*) Where did all the files go?”

- Owen Wilson – Zoolander

Victory Belle

I finally finished my ‘nose art’ painting (Glenn Miller, anyone?)!

Captain Miller (of propaganda): “… ‘The Statue of Liberty is kaput’ – that’s disconcerting.”

- Tom Hanks – Saving Private Ryan

Anna No. 3 (faux wet plate collodion)

collodion_anna_no_3

Totally exaggerated freckles (although I was tempted to pull them out even further). Ditto the luminous / iridescent / ‘Underworld-ish’ eyes. Over-processing. That’s just how I roll fake-ambrotype.

Selene: “We have a serious problem.”

- Kate Beckinsale – Underworld

About this image: digital photograph (Canon 600D) heavily modified to replicate wet plate collodion

Jules Verne

jules_verne

Apparently my computer doesn’t always ‘work’ these days. So, if I suddenly disappear, that’s probably why. Also, here’s my drawing of Jules Verne.

Jules Verne Drawing: “Imagine, if you can, a world filled with lighter-than-air machines… of submersibles… capable of exploring the greatest watery depths…”

Me: “Or, if you can, imagine a technology that always works… just as it’s been designed to do… with the simple push of a button!”

Jules Verne Drawing: “Dude! You are totally blowing my mind right now!”

Bald Eagle

Patriot (from the World Bird Sanctuary) was extremely cooperative. Very kind, don’t you think? Have a great weekend, everyone!

Sweet Dee Reynolds: “Callin’ me a bird all night… makin’ fun… sayin’ names…”

From Russia with Love

from_russia_with_love

I’m painfully slow, but this painting took f-o-r-e-v-e-r. Due to its scale I used a pin to paint quite a bit of the background (St. Basil’s Cathedral –  a building I’ve always had a crush on). Partially inspired by ‘From Russia with Love‘ and instant film  it seems pretty cool that 1963 was significant in the history of both… (according to my… um… ‘research department’, anyway).

Tatiana Romanova: “The mechanism is… Oh James, James… Will you make love to me all the time in England?”

James Bond: “Day and night. Go on about the mechanism.”

Daniela Bianchi & Sean Connery – From Russia with Love
