It seems the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge, ‘Old’, is right up my alley (since I have a sick compulsion to make my photos look older than they really are). I figure a fake wet-plate photograph qualifies as ‘old’, and while landscapes/nature photography is not my forte, the Rockies are probably fairly old, too. I would guess.
Harry: “Huh. I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this.”
Lloyd: “I was thinkin’ the same thing. That John Denver’s full of s***, man.”

About this image: digital photograph – highly modified
Your photos continue to amaze and inspire, Inky. I’ve never seen the Rockies. but NOW I HAVE! LOL
Something about this photo reminds me of The Civil War documentary John & I just watched on PBS. Must just be the old quality of the photo? I don’t recall any significant (or otherwise) battles occuring in the Rockies?!
You are too kind, Dishy!
I was only there once… but it was amazing… I wish I had taken a few more photos!
The Ken Burns one?! I love that documentary… ever since it first came out (I was probable the only kid in my ENTIRE high school who preferred staying home to watch it to going out)! 🙂
Yeah, not the most uplifting documentary ever – I am a pacifist and cannot take most war films, too raw – but very important information and perspective. You can’t go forward and do better until you learn from the past.
Absolutely, Dishy…
Those who do not remember the past…
🙂
But I can so see some soldiers in confederate & union garb battling it out at the bottom. Can’t you??
I can hear a distant bugle as well! 🙂
Toot-toot-tooooot!
I’m a bit jealous…
my bugle impression is always flat…
🙂
Now this image makes me think of Bonanza…you know in the beginning when they burn the edges. In fact, this could be the Ponderosa! Great image!
*dun, dun dun dun, dun dun dun dunnnnn*
That was the theme music. You could totally tell, right?!
Thank you, J.G. – that is very kind of you! 🙂
Very nice. Have you been promoted to Freshly Pressed for any of your photos?
Thank you, Mel… that’s awfully kind of you, but (*laughing hysterically & wiping tear away from eye*)… ummm, not yet…
🙂
I think this is beautiful.
Thank you very much, S.E. –
you are far too kind!
🙂
Really cool shot and processing as usual. This kind of manipulation is really in your wheelhouse. At some point I would like to discuss the finer points of post-processing with you. So am email from me would not be spam. Nicely done Robert.
Thanks much, Mr. J – I do appreciate that…
I’m afraid I get gimmicky at times, but having fun with this stuff is the main thing, right?! 🙂
Any time, Mr. J! I’m available at:

Roger that, enjoying the process is key.
That’s what I’m telling myself, anyway…
🙂
I love it! Because it reminds me of simpler times maybe… and of vacation! It’s beautiful. 😛
P.S. Can we go on another road-trip now? Pleeeeeeeeaaaase??????
Thank you, Annabelle…
There is that whole ‘store’ thing…
🙂
I can’t believe you quoted my favorite line out of Dumb and Dumber.
Every time you think I couldn’t possibly do anything any dumber, I go and do something like this…
🙂
Wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAA!
🙂
Another cool photo…makes me think: How’d he do that? 😀
Thank you very much, Mary!
Nothing too fancy – just a little Photoshop.
🙂
Very neat processing on this one. It gives it a “lost treasure” sort of aura. Mystery & intrigue!
This must be exactly how it looked 150 years ago when my ancestors saw the Rockies for the first time.
Except for that one tree stump on the right…
ah, yes… my sweet, sweet pine armoire…
🙂
John Denver probably is full of s*** by now man
I was hoping it wasn’t too soon…
🙂
Aha!!! These are the other non-John Denver song mountains. The Rockyless Mountains.
Hahaha…
and very catchy tunes they are…
🙂
P.S. Look down the bottom right of the page. This theme was designed by Mike Tyson…
HA!
Quick! Protect your ears!
🙂
Digging this shot and your process! Nice.
Very kind of you, sir!
It would sure be nice to do the real thing some day…
🙂
That’s excellent!! Both the image as well as your ‘aging’ process. I too would be interested to hear about your process; it would come in very helpful for me at work!
Thank you, sir… that’s much appreciated!
Any time – once I get started you’ll never shut me up, though (just a heads-up)!
🙂
