I don’t think I’ve posted a painting in some time, so… let me start by apologizing to your cones and rods (I’ll find something a little less saturated for everyone’s recovering retinas tomorrow).
Today is an experiment. Back in the day (when I produced a successful marginal webcomic), I drew a strip referencing Andy Warhol / Pop Art. The outcry was… surprising. Honestly, I’m indifferent to most Pop Art, but if poor A.W. was still alive, the majority of my audience would have called for his white-haired head.
It’ll be interesting to see how this goes. Should you find yourself wanting to strangle me, please remember, my lungs are already full of spray paint from the above project. *cough cough wheeze*
See? I’m suffering, too.
About this image: Enamel & Acrylic on 24″x30″ canvas
aha….fridge goes retro…
umm…its…nice..i dont understand it…but its nice…grins
Hahaha…
SEE! I knew it! I knew it!
(sometimes all you can do is smile and nod, Sonny)
🙂
i kinda wanna hang this on my wall.
love it 😉
Hahaha…
Thanks, B.D.
It’s… unique… right?!
🙂
To be honest I would like it better without the purple dots. No matter which way I turn my head I still can’t see the naked woman in there…
HA!
That’s because this one’s got a hidden sailboat.
I’m saving the naked woman one for later.
🙂
Hey I see it now!!! That sure is one awesome sailboat with a naked all woman crew
HA!
I laughed out loud at this…
thank you, Tony – I needed that! 🙂
We watched a PBS special last night on Basquiat and Andy Warhol of course featured prominently. This fits right in!! Ever-so-timely, as usual, Inky!
Interesting…
this sort of thing happens to me quite a bit…
for some strange reason…
🙂
It appears that you may have purple bird poo that fell from the highwires… sorry, maybe that was too offensive 😦
Hahaha…
the crazy birds around here must be eating berries again…
🙂
Andy Warhol was a genius
FINALLY!
Someone else who doesn’t abhor Warhol! I wouldn’t say he’s my favorite painter of all time (that’s Edward Hopper), but I’m puzzled as to why so many people dislike him so much…
🙂
I’m lovin’ the green, the yellow and the black, but I think I would have preferred a little less of the pink. I think it’s a needed element to complete the composition but it’s dominating it. But, as we all know, art lies in the eye of the beholder, so my opinion is worthless, except for me. 😉
I get the feeling you are not alone in your evaluation, J.G. – and of course your opinion is important… everyone’s is! 🙂
I like your painting and Andy Warhol fascinates me. I did a presentation on him when I was at college. I played David Bowie’s song on a tape recorder and handed out copies of the lyrics. I really like his use of repetition: same, same but different. I love collections of things partly for that reason. I’m not sure that Mr Warhol was a very nice person but I love him anyway.
I’ll admit I don’t know nearly as much about Warhol’s character/life/personality as I should, although somehow/somewhere I’ve formed the same impression you have, S.E.
I like quite a few of A.W.’s pieces… I certainly don’t HATE them… seems odd how passionate people are about this. Today’s post ‘done tanked’ (I hope everyone comes back)!
🙂
I think it’s because he agitates people, stirring up both positive and negative excitement.
That makes sense…
🙂
Well I for one love this painting! It’s wild and graphic and has a great guerrilla art feel to it with the spray paint and bold design. The photo doesn’t do it justice really since you can’t make out the textures and 3D qualities. If it didn’t slam you in the face this piece wouldn’t work at all.. but since it DOES it’s awesome! KA-POW! LOVE IT!
I’m glad you think so, Annabelle…
I was considering hiding it…
Perhaps we should rename this ‘Rocky’?
Or… not.
🙂
I’ve looked and looked but I can’t see a naked woman anywhere Tony.
Andy Warhol….. Campbell Soup who knew!
I think you are supposed to stare for as long as you can without blinking and then close your right eye…
I think the soup has been sent back!
🙂
I kinda like it, in a 70’s retro kind of way. Actually to me, I still think it is the 70’s. The 70’s with internet.
I’m like that with the late 90’s…
not sure I ever grew out of the grunge phase (yeah, I’m THAT guy).
Thanks, Binky! 🙂
1.) Coming from the photography/graphic art side of the visual arts makes me pre-disposed to love Andy’s work.
2.) Hopper is badass…nuff said.
3.) Your spouse is right, your piece works precisely because it snaps. I really like the painting…especially the PINK DOTS. I would hang it on my wall (of course I would pay for it first ;-))
Who knew this style cold be so polarizing?! Love it or hate it, I guess.
He’s still the man.
I thought so at first… I think in larger scale they help, too… for some reason… I think…
Thanks, Mr. J.! 🙂
Did you use a compass for those perfect circles?
Hahaha – YES!
They do have a bit of relief to them, though… I built them up with modeling paste, so they’re an eighth of an inch thick +/-.
🙂
I actually quite like it. My cones and rods are pleased.
That is very nice to hear, Meagan – I think the cone and rod happiness/sheer anger ratio was awfully unbalanced on this one…
🙂
Psychedelic,man. Rock on. 🙂
Can you dig it?
I thought that you… might…
🙂
Hey…love this! the colors rock! 😀
Thanks, Mary!
They do seem to stand out… a bit…
🙂
Love it! *Enamel* and acrylic? See, I would never have thought to use enamel on a painting. (Which only goes to confirm that I am not an artist). 🙂
Not at all, Jayne – it only shows how crazy I am (and how much spray-paint I had laying around and wanted to use up)! 🙂
