Annabelle convinced me the fridge could use some color today, so I went crazy ridiculously over-saturated. Go big, or go home, I guess. Sorry elegant b/w zebra photo… I guess I’ll post you some other day.
And, while I tend to avoid them, I also threw a filter at this. Wow.
Oh – I’m not big on snakes, either. Still, this guy seemed relatively safe to approach (as he was contained behind an impressive thickness of glass). So… there you go. As much fun as a snake can provide. Without a plane, that is.
About this image: digital photograph – moderately modified
That is one stylish snake! I’m not a snake person either but I’ve been known to photograph a few in my day. They are fascinating!
I’ve found they’re one of very few creatures that will sit still long enough for a slow guy like me to grab a photo! 🙂
SSSssssstunninggg!!
Thankssssss, Dishy! 🙂
I think he’s cute! Maybe cute isn’t the right word but still… I love snakes. Especially the non-venomous variety like this pretty little python. I could just hug him! (And he’d probably hug me back). You know I love bright colors too so obviously I think this photo is tops!
Thank you, Annabelle – I guess I tend to shy away from color, so every now and then it’s probably good to try something like this. I don’t think I’d dry hugging this guy, though. 🙂
Hugging a python can be a pain in the neck….literally!!!
Hahaha…
it can cramp more than just your style! 🙂
nice! i love snakes. can’t decide whether this is a boa constrictor or a python, i’m leaning towards the boa. it definitely deserves the extra dose of saturation. 🙂
Thank you so much! And thank you for stopping by, too!
You know, considering I stopped long enough to take photos you’d think I would remember that info, but now I’m not so sure… hmmm….
🙂
Glass? Did you not use a flash? I have never had success taking pictures when it was behind glass.
I hate snakes but this photo is great. 🙂
Fortunately, I was able to ‘prop-up’ my camera (combined with a very fast ISO and a wide-open lens) allowing me to get away with a slower shutter-speed and no flash.
Thank you, sir – I appreciate that! 🙂
Come on Mel, who’d want to flash a snake??? 🙂
Sounds painful…
🙂
That’s a cool portrait of a very handsome fellow. I love his dragon eyes.
Thanks, S.E. –
his eyes are definitely my favorite ‘part’ of this photo… I wish I had taken a few a bit closer-up and from slightly more ‘straight on’, too…
🙂
Eeeeeek! Great though, even though I’m terrified of these critters. Love bold green.
I wouldn’t have gotten to close to this guy had I seen him in his natural habitat, that’s for sure!
Thank you so much for visiting!
🙂
You surely made it look attractive! Great job!
Thank you very much for the kind words, Marina!
🙂
Color??!! Am I in the right place?
That snake has a very satisfied-looking grin, like he just swallowed a cat or something.
Hahaha… kinda’ bizarre, huh?!
If curiosity doesn’t get the cat, this guy probably will!
🙂
or a wombat…
Wow… amazing..
That’s extremely wild 🙂
Thank you so much for visiting, and your kind words, as well!
Yeah, it felt pretty wild… even though I knew he wasn’t too interested in my being there…
🙂
Love your picture but really have this thing about snakes. Don’t really like them anywhere near me. Nice half tone touch btw!
Thank you very much, sir!
I feel the same way… I’d prefer to keep my distance from most snakes and insects… it just seems like the right thing to do! 🙂
Awesome shot!!!
Thank you so much, R.P. –
it’s not the best, but it’ll have to do in a pinch!
Thank you very much for stopping by!
🙂
Ooh I love this one – excellent!
Thank you, N.M. – I thought he seemed fairly interesting…
🙂
excellent shot (especially with the added touch of the crosshairs!)
Thanks much, J.G. –
I was hoping I hadn’t over-done it…
🙂
love the saturated color!
It seemed like it might be appropriate for this one…
Thank you very, much, U.M. – I very much appreciate your visit! 🙂
Great picture. I guess one advantage to being a snake is that you can wear yourself as a scarf.
Hahaha…
there’s got to be a few perks, right?!
🙂
I sort of like snakes, as long as they are ‘contained’ in some way. The texture and colours of their skin is rather beautiful. I’m also a fan of colour, so I love this. Aaand, I also like your framing! Something you made …or something acquired?
I agree! I find animals like this intriguing (as long as I know they can’t get any closer than I want them to)!
Thank you, Jayne! While I physically put the border together, I can’t take credit for the design (I based it on an i-phone border I’ve seen – I changed it a bit, but it’s pretty close). I often try to replicate film borders, etc. for my images… it’s kinda’ fun to do… because I’m a dork like that!
🙂
Interesting to see a picture with a lot of color after so many of your pictures have darker, muted colors.
My wife said the very same thing.
Then she said, “I really like color…”
Which, I suspect, is her polite way of saying, “Use more color, Blandie McBlanderson.” 🙂
He certainly does look like one mean mother’thingy-wotsit… and as much as I don’t mind snakes, I’m not sure I’d want to find him as part of the in-flight entertainment… Sweet shot though.. 🙂
Hahaha… absolutely! I’m perfectly happy with my complimentary in-flight bag-o-peanuts! Thanks much, sir! 🙂
Wow that is awesome. Look at that amazing green colouring. I’ll admire him/her from a distance though
I’m not crazy about snakes, but this shot is beautiful. Nice job.
I feel the same way about them, Cecelia!
Thank you very much for your kind words! 🙂
A beautiful shot…so vividly colorful yet so deadly!
Thank you so much, Zoya (and thank you for stopping by, as well)!
I don’t think I would have had the courage to get anywhere near this guy without all the glass! 🙂
snakes do creep me the F out. but green is my favorite color… sooooooo…. i guess i’m halfway excited about this photo!
but, great pic though. seriously
I’m not big on snakes, either. Or any animal that want’s to put a good scare into me, really.
Thank you very much, B.D. – you are too kind! 🙂
omg.
dont.like.snakes.
*scratches skin*
eeeeeeeeeek
http://panicmonster.com/2011/05/09/weekly-photo-challenge-wildlife/
The seem a little bit too sly… (and… other… creepy stuff, too)!
🙂
Wow! But where are the, you know, scratches and dirt and reflections on the glass? I call foul! That thing is clearly living in your backyard and eating your neighbors.
Hahaha…
only the ones I don’t like.
(I basically put my lens right on the glass which took care of most of that stuff)
🙂
