It’s been a while since I posted a drawing, so here’s a look at Eddie. I drew him as part of a mixed media author series. This drawing’s done, and the piece itself is about 95 percent finished (which means I should have the whole thing complete in about a decade or so).
Raven: “Knock knock!”
Poe: “Who is there?”
Raven: “Orange…”
Poe: “Are you serious? Come back when you’ve got some decent material, dude!”
About this image: charcoal drawing on Bristol Board
Ha! Quoth the Raven, “Orange you glad I didn’t say ‘banana’?”
Great drawing.
I’ve also heard he flew in all the way from Cleveland.
Don’t ask him how his wings feel.
Thank you! π
You are so good at this.
You are too kind, S.E.! π
Even at 95% finished it already looks fantastic. Hope you show us the finished version too!
Thank you, sir!
I will do so – if I can ever get those last few pieces finished…
(I have 2 other pieces in this series that are at about the same level of ‘completeness’ as well…
π
Great likeness
Thanks N.M…
fortunately for me he’s got some fairly unique characteristics…
π
I like it! And that Poe – he has such a thing for me.
I heard about that…
(a little raven told me…)
π
stylish portrait …
Very kind of you, sir!
π
Knock, knock, knock
Who keeps k knocking at my door. Asked Poe
It is I the raven I come home. Said the Raven.
Hahaha – that crazy raven never stops making racket!
π
How come everything is always in a state of being finished. Can’t you control your ADD long enough to finish one thing before moving on to the next?
Hahaha… do you want honest reasons or the rehearsed excuses?!
π
Amazing! I though it was an old photograph, you’ve definitely got skills!
You are far to kind sir, thank you!
π
Wow! I agree with Kieran, when I first saw this I thought, why’s he posting a photo of Poe? Good job. I can’t draw to save my life. I probably make stick figures look awful haha.
Just proof I need to get out more.
Hahaha… I seriously doubt that, Eden!
π
I tried to hit the “like” button twenty times but it didn’t work. It’s a damn good Poe!
It’s the thought that counts (especially when it comes to frustrating non-functional technology)! Thank you very, very much Y.A.W.! π
Oh… it looks like one of them worked (it’s showing up now). Thanks again, Y.A.W.! π
He looks like he’s just read one of my blog posts and wants to slap me. Don’t worry Spilled Ink Guy, I’ve promised to take him out for a drink! He’s already drunk your stash π
Hahaha…
I KNEW it! That’s what I get for not finishing everything off at once like I had originally planned! π
No prob Spilled Ink Guy the drinks are on you π
*hic*
Okay.
π
Looks very good to me, and very complete, too. Better be careful, though, or Poe will be giving you nightmares.
Finish me, or I will haunt you forever!!
Thanks, Binky!
I’ve got him transferred onto some text from ‘The Raven’ and I’ve built a faux rusted iron frame which is supporting a book next to that… (all that’s left is to put a small image on the cover of the book)…
π
Some of his stuff is seriously creepy. But that’s part of his genius. Awesome work!
Agreed, sir! I’ve got Mark Twain and Louisa May Alcott in progress as well (I hope to post updates on all of them from time to time). Thank you very much, Jason! π
someone once tried to sell me a stuffed crow called edgar, which i thought was very funny. anyway… this is brilliant! i too, thought it was a photograph.
Thank you very much, C.O.R.! That is very kind of you!
Hahaha… my wife actually has a crow Halloween decoration that sounds fairly similar (not sure it’s stuffed), but it is fairly convincing from a distance! π
love love LOVE it.
and Poe was my favorite poet. back when i used to read.
you’re just like me, i never finish ANYTHING
Thanks so much, B.D. – that is very kind of you!
The problem I have with reading is that I’m SO slow… it’s pathetic, honestly.
It’s a bit of a problem. But I’ve started to work on it…
π
Now that’s ΓΌber impressive SIG… I’ve never played with charcoal, but your results here have inspired me to maybe have a little play around…
That’s uber kind of you, F.S. Darn it… I have no idea how to get that special character in here. Please don’t laugh at my ‘u’.
You really should! I can tell from the amazing work you have done with graphite that you would absolutely love it! The mess / keeping stuff clean is the worst part, but it’s hard to beat for getting nice, solid tones (I think, anyway)! π
Damn, you’re talented! I can’t even draw stick figures.
Eh… just had too much time on my hands when I was younger, but thank you!
Hahaha… I seriously doubt that’s the case, Bob!
π
We toured Poe’s house back in Philly – the guide was worth the trip alone. Talk about a character! Anyway, this is a fantastic drawing, Inky. Truly, your talent knows no bounds.
That sounds like a very interesting tour! I might even sneak out of the apartment for something like that!
And your kindness knows no bounds… thank you so much, Dishy!
π
The woods are lovely, dark and deep… oh, wait a minute…. wrong dude. π
Hahaha…
probably would have fooled me, sir…
π
It looks finished to me! π Very impressive!!!
Thank you, Mary! Well… the drawing is, anyway… maybe…
π
You are one talented guy! Photos and drawings! I struggle with photos and can’t draw a straight line with a ruler.
I am, as always, seriously impressed!
And you are too kind!
It doesn’t look to me like you struggle with photos – you are being far too modest – you do amazing work, sir! π
I wish I could like this four more times!
That is very kind of you, S.D.D. – thank you!
π
I haven’t read Poe in a while, but he always fascinated me! Wonderful drawing- WONDERFUL!!! I am sure you will finish it in 9 1/2 years… BE POSITIVE!!
To tell you the truth I haven’t either, Juana… probably because I’m such a SLOW reader (it’s sad, really)!
Hahaha… well, I could TRY for 9 1/2… doesn’t sound like much time, though!
π
I’m looking forward to hanging Poe in our apartment! He will fit right in with our raven theme! π
He’ll probably just scare the heck out of the maintenance staff. And me.
π
Excellent drawing. It’s so good it looks like a photograph
Thanks so much, Tony – that is very kind of you, sir! π
I love the very real-looking light in his eyes. And . . . is that an ascot he’s wearing? I do hope so.
It’s all about the eyes, U.M.
And YES! How awesome is that?! I may or may not have worn one myself once (during a parade / my very brief stint as a ‘percussionist’). Neither stylish, nor functional. That’s how I roll. Or not π
