Here are some concrete piers I photographed down by the river. Have a great weekend everyone!
“Now as your father probably told ya’, My name is Matt Foley, and I am a motivational speaker. Now let’s get started by lettin’ me give you a little bit of a scenario of what my life is all about. First off, I am 35 years old, I am divorced, and I live in a van down by the river.”
– Chris Farley – Saturday Night Live
About this image: digital photograph, highly modified
the typical “I am divorced, and I live in a van down by the riverβ-design, great!
Hahaha…
yeah, I’ve seen something fairly similar in the brochures…
π
I really like all the rectangles, the colours and the sprocket holes and the sticker too. Nice one.
Thank you very much, S.E…
this is a pretty interesting spot… I was trying to capture the ‘feel’ of the place, but I’m not sure how successful I was with all of that…
π
sounds like a Springsteen song
Haha…
‘Born, by a concrete pier…’
π
Looks nothing like Piers Morgan.
Ha!
Really? I thought I saw a bit of a resemblance…
π
Fit for a Unibomber!
Duck and cover, Loon!
π
Had to look at it more closely. At first it looks like a very interesting collage, then I saw the series of entrances and walls. You are very telepathic because this would do well on this week’s photo challenge which is “worn”
It’s strange… that sort of thing happens to me a lot! Fortunately I have a lot of things that might work for warn, but you’re right sir… I think this one seems appropriate for that theme (I kinda’ wish I had waited to check on the new challenge before posting)! π
how did you get this to look like film? so creative!
Just a bit of Photoshop smoke and mirrors…
I used a scan of a negative leader to get started, then I just enhanced it a bit. Thank you very much, J.G.!
π
How much does Photoshop cost and how does it do for making photos look great in post production?
That depends on… if you buy Photoshop by itself or with other programs (Illustrator, Indesign, Dreamweaver, etc.), if you’re buying the ‘full’ version, etc…
Short answer… EXPENSIVE! The only reason we were able to pick it up was that Adobe gives huge discounts to teachers (which Annabelle was at the time). I’m not very familiar with other image editing software, but I use P.S. almost daily… it’s powerful, powerful software, Mel… I can’t under-stress how ‘good’ it is (which it has to be to sell for as much as it does…)
π
Well you could always get it on torrent too. Jus’ sayin.. Ah nevermind..
Hahaha…
My lawyer tells me I should neither confirm nor deny this, Lynn.
He’s good. Works out’ – the back of his Pinto.
π
I use Picaso mainly because it is free. Maybe one day I can put PS on my list of things to get.
Photoshop is amazing, but free is almost always a very good thing, Mel! π
You might consider trying Gimp. I’ve never used it, but it does have a lot of supporters, and seems to be quite powerful. and it’s FREE.
I’ve never tried it, either… although I have heard similar things…
π
Great Image Sir!!! Love what you did with capture and treatment…
Thank you! That is very kind, and I’m happy to hear that you liked it! π
How do you do that???
Are you asking about the film leader part Mr. B?
(Sorry… but as I’m sure you’ve noticed I’m a bit slow…)
NO…. how do you take something completely “normal” and make it into a cool picture? I’d bet people walk/drive by those pilings every day without seeing it. π Nice work!
Oh… that’s just me not getting out much and looking for material wherever I can find it, I guess.
Thanks so much, Mr. B – you’re a kind dude! π
Yeah, that could be my comment on every single photo. The negative thing is such a good trick; being able to think of things like that is probably more important than taking good pictures in my mind, which is cool and maddening.
Well… yes and no, I think… maybe. Hmmm…. I ponder this myself all the time. Anyway, I definitely see your point, U.M. π
Piers and Pilings…sounds like a team. I wish I could teach myself Photoshop π¦ You do some amazing things with yours!
I know you could, Mary! If I can do it, so can you (granted itβs taken me 10 years and Iβm still trying to figure it all out β but Iβm a little slow, you know)! π
Definitely worth some close examination! So much going on in the details.
Bravo! Nicely done!
Thank you so much – I really appreciate that, Mr. A!
It was a pretty cool place to sneak around – lots of fun (which is always the main thing, right)?!
π
Great shot, some amazing textures in there, and the processing is great too. Nice one!
Thank you very much for the kind comments, sir! I really appreciate that… I did have some fun putting this one together! π
Quite an interesting perspective. The piers almost look organic, like trees or something.
Thanks, Binky! It is an interesting place to wonder around! π
Matt: And what do you want to do young lady?
Girl: I want to live in a van down by the river.
Matt: WEll you’ll have plenty of time to live in a van down by the river. When your living in a van down by the river.
Classic my friend. That is when saturday night live was funny.
Chris Farley was a riot… you could tell he was willing to do pretty much anything for a laugh…
π
Very interesting shot. Your originality fascinates me!
The dialogue reminded me of Adam Sandler and his “I live in my sister’s basement”
from the Wedding Singer. ( Still one of my favorites) π
Thank you very much, Juana!
I do a terrible impression of Adam Sandler… I enjoy it… it’s just everyone else who seems to suffer through it! π
I would enjoy your Adam Sandler impression… I am sure of it!!
Thank you, Juana…
I’ll admit it’s a bit of an acquired taste! π
Lol! Love it!
Thank you, Annabelle! π
Are you sure they are Piers & not Pilings???
I’m never sure, Tony… I thought about calling this ‘Big Concrete Chunks’, but that didn’t seem to sound quite right, either.
π
Love this shot/ shots!
Thanks so much!
I’ve been going back and fourth on this one (as always)…
π
Love the treatment here. Very beautiful textures.
Thanks very much, Mr. H…
messing this one up was half the fun…
