Mourning Dove

It’s time for a nap. Monday Annabelle and I start our ‘vacation’, anyway. I find these things almost as stressful as relaxing… I might need a nap when I get back, too. Anyway, we’ll be gone for 2 weeks or so. Unfortunately internet access will be scarce, so I won’t be able to  annoy visit everyone while we’re gone.  I’ll be back, though… leaving my usual trail of nonsensical comments behind me (although I may cut back on my own posting schedule). Because, as you’ve probably guessed, I’m not great with change. And there’s a ton of it going on right now. Makes me all… twitchy. Maybe I just need a nap?

*ZZZzzz*

  1. Change makes me all twitchy too.
Did you get an email from me?
I’ve cut back my time online too, I’m trying to post a pic a day but I’m pretty slow these days at making and answering comments. Partly because it takes so long to do from my phone and I’m not in the mood to go to the internet cafe.
Anyway, you just do whatever you feel like, matey.
Enjoy your break! Take care! Have fun!

    • I feel like some kind of ‘structure’ helps maintain the illusion everything is under control. *sigh* Oh well.

I did indeed get your lovely note – thank you very much, S.E., you are far too kind! I sent you a reply – I hope that made it back to you…

I really enjoy posting an image a day – but with this trip, being anxious about finding a job, and then getting into a routine with that job… might mean I’ll be down to two or three posts per week.

Thanks so much, S.E. – we will sure try! 🙂

  2. Enjoy your vacation. I’m going to be gone, too, starting next week. Don’t know if I’ll have wifi or not. Look forward to seeing your posts in the future, whenever you get to it.

  3. Robert, this is so beautiful! I makes me want to say, Ah, sweet dove, can I tuck my head in your fluffy, ruffled feathers and take a nap with you? ZZZ zzzzzz ZZZ zzzzzz………..

  4. Time away will do you some good. Tends to put things into perspective.

I like mourning doves. They are so delicate and elegant-looking and have beautiful blue-rimmed eyes and pink(!) legs/feet.

    • Yeah… I suspect you’re right about that, M.P.
I like mourning doves, too. We have a few around and I like to watch them. They seem kinda’ jolly in a rolly-polly sort of way.
      🙂

    • That’s very kind of you… ninety-eight percent of my ‘wildlife’ photos don’t turn out at all. Every now and then I get a bit lucky, though.
Thanks so much for stopping by and for your kind comment as well! I really appreciate that, Ms. C! 🙂

  5. Lovely little dove. Made me think of the poem;

Pretty little birdy on my window sill
Pretty little birdy with a yellow bill
    I fed him milk
    I fed him bread
Then I slammed the window on his head.

sorry, I really love birds & would never do that but it’s just the 1st thing that came to mind. Enjoy your vacation

  6. Change makes me nervous too.
Animals know, how to make a
    mental fence around themselves,
    to protect identity, current mood;
even a nap is a good trick.

  7. So pretty… I want to just cuddle it! (And take a nap with it.)

YAY vacation! Thanks for going along with my wild adventure plans babe. 🙂

  8. Hey Inky…I hope your (reluctant?)vacation goes ok. 😀 I love Mourning Doves…I have several pairs of them that come to my bird feeder…actually, they feed from the ground. I hear them cooing that mournful sound almost every day. Thanks for being a loyal reader and cheerleader for my paltry efforts! Peace…have fun!!!

    • We used to watch them at a feeder outside our store, too!
I’d throw some food on the ground for them (which the squirrels seemed to get at first…) they were very patient though, and usually were well rewarded!
Thanks, Mary! I always enjoy stopping by to see the amazing work you’ve created! You are a very talented lady! 🙂

  9. Love the composition and the tone of this shot! Nicely done, once again!!

    Kick back and relax!!

I’m going to go back through all of your posts and leave you a ton of messages to deal with when you get back. 😉

    • Thanks very much, sir! This is one of the oldest shots I have… I did just re-edit this version, though.
I’m going to try… makes me all twitch just thinking about it.
I always enjoy your kind comments! Thank you so much, sir – I greatly appreciate your visits! 🙂

  10. Y’all have fun. Don’t worry about us we will still be here when you get back And hey we’ll leave the light on for you.

  11. I like the tones and depth of field on this image. It reminds me of a walnut!

Have great vacation and try not to get lost (breadcrumbs work well).

    • Very interesting, Binky! Now that you mention it, that I can see that as well!

Hahaha! Thank you very much, sir! Good thing I’ve been saving up all that crust! 🙂

  12. I agree SiG, Planningf or vacation is stressful but so worth it- especially if you dont need internet connectivity. How nice- I hope you and your muse enjoy! 🙂

  13. The whole clear out fridge of perishables/organise house for cat sitter/pack just enough/not too much/have I got passport/medication …yadda yadda yadda I find pretty stressful and always wonder why the heck I’m doing it. Then I get on the plane/ferry and I breathe a huge sigh of happy relief and know that ahead lies uncharted territory and *fun*.

The tones in your photo are just gorgeous BTW.

    • That is one of the worst parts, isn’t it! And of course we always wind up with multiple suitcases and bags, etc. and I can never remember what is packed where. Then when you get back home you’ve got the whole procedure in reverse.

Thank you very much, Jayne – that is very kind of you! 🙂

  14. dude, i almost avoid vacas at this point. it’s the getting home part that i dread. and not having reliable internet at my fingertips for a week stresses me out beyond the point of possible relaxation.

aw, i love me some doves

  15. Sorry for my suuuuuuper late comment, Inky! We just got back from vacation – hope yours was (or still is?) wonderfully relaxing!

This photo is beautiful. As a bird-crazed loony, I like it as much as any of yours I’ve sen – and possibly more. And that’s saying a lot.

    A+++

    • Thank you so very much, Dishy!
I hope that your family had a nice vacation! The verdict is still out on ours… Anna and I MIGHT be able to try again (we just have to see how a few things play out first)…
      🙂
