I was going to take some photos of the pier yesterday, but… yeah. Bummer, dude. Although Annabelle pointed out this shot kinda’ has a Blues Brothers feel to it. Which made me feel much better, of course.
Jake: “What the hell is this?”
Elwood: “This was a bargain. I picked it up at the Mount Prospect city police auction last spring. It’s an old Mount Prospect police car. They were practically giving ’em away.”
Jake: “Well thank you, pal. The day I get outta prison, my own brother picks me up in a ‘police’ car!”

Nice shot! Kinda nice that the pier was closed. Great lines.
That is very kind of you to say, Ms. D – thank you very much!
🙂
Should have had Piers Morgan standing next to it.
Hmm… maybe that’s why it was closed to the general public.
I bet he was out there enjoying a sandwich.
🙂
Damn you Bearman I was going to do a Piers Morgan joke. Funnier if you had Larry King laughing next to it.
Caller? Caller? Are you there, caller?
🙂
sometimes what we don’t expect ends up with a better result! love it!
Hahaha… I do try to keep my expectations very, very low. Just in case.
Thank you very much, J.G. – you are very kind!
🙂
Yet another cool image, spilledinkguy 🙂 Your eye is really drawn to that lock in this. Great composition!
Thank you very, very much, Eden!
I tried a few different angles where more of the chain etc. was cropped out, but I liked those elements quite a bit, too!
🙂
Hi SIG, it also looks like a bridge that is close for business!. The picture is very nicely done!
It does look like that, doesn’t it!
I think the reason it was closed was that the river it spans has been so high lately. It appeared to have been damaged in a few places by debris that had struck the side and splintered a bit of the wood deck.
Thank you very much for stopping by and for your kind comment (as always)! 🙂
Ooh – I love that shot! And now you have a lovely photo with no chance of accidentally being mauled by a sea monster.
Hahaha!
Hey! I bet that’s why the pier was closed! How could I have forgotten about sea monster season! *whew* That could have been bad!
Thank you very much for stopping by, Megan! 🙂
Sory to hear the pier was closed. But don’t let it get you down. We can go see the penquin she will cheer you up.
Hahaha…
well, a promise is a promise, I guess…
🙂
Love the perspective. Another excellent composition. It is without peer !
I did discover it’s best to wear pants without worn out knees when crawling around on hot metal. But it was fun, never-the-less!
Hahaha… thank you very much!
🙂
How did Pier dare close the door on you!! Wait until I get him…
But, you still got a great shot and cool dialogue to go with it! 🙂
Hahaha… the nerve of that guy, right!? Maybe I overstayed my welcome the last time I visited!
Thank you very much, Juana! I tried, anyway! 🙂
The TTV thing always looked complicated to me, but I like the result. Pier says ocean to me (I grew up in a California beach town), so where is this if I may ask?
I’ve still got quite a few bugs to work out (stabilizing my TTV device and I could use more resolution, etc.), but I’ve been having fun with it, at least!
This was taken at Bishop’s Landing on the Missouri River in St. Charles, Missouri. It’s pretty small in scale compared to most photos of similar structures I’ve seen elsewhere, but it’s still fairly interesting. I took this photo there as well.
🙂
Haha, I remember your piles. 😉
Hahaha…
who could forget!
*whew*
🙂
You probably would have just got yourself killed anyways… or shot your eye out. 😉
Hahaha…
there was a rather ominous tumble weed blowing across my path… you could be right about that, Mel!
🙂
Closed??? Now I feel so excluded
Me too! Maybe if I camp outside the gate long enough someone will tire of the hassle and let me in for a few minutes.
🙂
Love the pic Inky. The pier looks more like a cage though.. I think you’re fortunate they were closed for the day (never know what could have happened, and none of it good!)
Thank you, Dishy!
Hahaha… now that you mention it, this does look a bit like some sort of ‘pro’ wrestling set-up or something.
*ding ding ding*
🙂
Very nice, SIG. The lines are wonderful and the cloud and sign finish it off really well.
Thank you very much, S.E…
the clouds were so nice that day… now I wish I had taken some more shots of the sky…
🙂
Come on slacker, you could have scaled that gate if you really wanted to 🙂
My thoughts exactly. C’mon…. tell us you succumbed to temptation
Hmm… let’s just say I considered it…
😉
Hahaha…
maybe I did and I just can’t tell you about it, Loon!
😉
When life closes one pier on you, it hurts. Especially if you get caught in the gate. At least you got a good shot out of it!
Hahaha…
a good shot to the chin, too!
Does anyone else see all those stars?!
🙂
Without the sign of course, it reminds me of a prison workout yard. Not that I’ve ever seen a prison workout yard before but i can imagine that’s how one would look. I think most of your art has a geometric theme. You love balance and it loves you!
It reminded me of something very similar, Lynn.
And thank you so much, that is so kind of you to say! (I was kinda’ thinking I was looking for what I was lacking in the balance department)!
🙂
Love it! And now for my favorite Blues Brothers quotes:
“Our Lady of Blessed Acceleration, don’t fail me now.” (I’ve used this one a few times….)
“It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark… and we’re wearing sunglasses.”
“Hit it.” (Used this one too….)
“Illinois Nazis.”
“I hate Illinois Nazis!”
Hey… you stole my future stolen dialogue, Annabelle!
😉
I’m on a mission from God. 😛
AH!
You did it again!
🙂
Ha ha ha! In the eighties I worked in a cinema that sometimes screened The Blues Brothers. I liked those shifts because the audience came out at the end in such a good mood.
I still really like that movie. It seems like every time I watch it I find something new to make me smile!
🙂
I really like the sort of fish eye lens-iness of this. I spent too many years in Ohio and am now obsessed with the water, though, so I must insist that you go back. And bring your floaties.
Isn’t that distortion cool?! That old Duaflex is just too much fun!
Hahaha… I don’t float very well, so I might just have to do that. Safety first, you know, U.M.!
🙂
