Here’s an old photo of ‘Fishtown’, Leland, Michigan. I sure wish I could go back in time and throw a little more background out of focus (if hindsight is 20/20 this is one time it wouldn’t hurt to be a bit blurrier). Oh well. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Fishtown seems awfully dry.
Fishtown, Fishtown everywhere…
and not a drop to *hic* drink…
π
Thanks for posting this picture! You make me like traveling back in time. ^^
I am so happy to hear that!
I did my best to make it feel a bit older, but there is a lot of modern ‘stuff’ in there I had a difficult time removing completely (especially the stuff behind all the netting).
π
This photo is calendar-worthy. It reminds me of a little harbor town in Washington State near where I once lived…Paulsbo, I think. Very atmospheric, even without the blurred bg π
That is so kind, thank you, Spectra!
I have never been to the west coast (or the east coast, really), but I’d love to visit some day…
I’ve heard it’s incredibly scenic!
π
You made me remember some traveling days back in the early 80’s.
Love the pic. The background doesn’t bother me.
xo
I’m very happy to hear that, Ms. A., Thank you!
Yeah, it’s not awful, I guess… when I shot this I should have just taken into account how much stuff is going on in the foreground.
π
Why does this look like a tilt-shift to me? It’s so dreamy.
And I like the background in focus, ’cause it’s actually interesting. I have half a mind to Photoshop a little cat-pirate on the dock, but I’ll control myself.
Thanks, U.M…
I added a little blur and took out quite a bit of ‘new stuff’ in Photoshop, but those buildings directly behind/through the nets make it hard to specifically separate the background. Hahaha *whew* I dodged a bullet, there (it took me an hour to airbrush the cat-pirate out)!
π
Well you did a great job. Not a paw print in sight
*whew*
I was hoping I didn’t miss any!
π
I’m looking into buying a time machine online for my kids this Christmas. Apparently, their all the rage this year.
Really beautiful,Sig. Makes me hungry for clam chowder and the smell of the sea.
Hahaha… yeah, it’s probably best to get a hold of one early…
there are sure to be ‘incidents’ (it’s bound to make all that Black Friday footage look like a cuddle-fest)!
Thank you so much! And now I have an excuse to break out my ‘famous’ ‘New England accent’…
CHOW-DAH!
π
That’s a nice composition. It works for me though I really can’t express why! good stuff Bob.
Thanks so much, Martin!
My wife and I made a second trip to ‘Fishtown’ a while back, and I was hoping to re-shoot there, but the area was beyond crowded with tourists and the nets weren’t up on these ‘frames’ at the time…
π
Great shot! π
Why, thank you very much!
π
I love that movie. Especially Kip’s wedding after the end, which always gets cut off when they run the movie on TV.
Oh, and your picture is great, too!
It’s a pretty flippin’ sweet movie, isn’t it?!
Why, thank you!
π
yes! another great photo!!!
I’m so happy to hear you liked it!
Thank you very much!
π
I like the way you make these pictures look old with the effects and border and everything. You certainly could fool most of us!
Coming from a man of your great rendering talents that really does mean a lot to me, sir!
Thank you very much!
π
Why didn’t you quote from “20/20”??
I was afraid you would start calling me Barbara.
π
Can’t see no fish…
I did catch a sunken tree branch.
π
cool shot!
I thank you, U.M.!
π
Another Great architecture of your hand again my friend great work π
I am always so happy to read your very kind comments, sir!
Thank you so much for all your support!
π
Wow. I would like to ride on a time machine. I remembered “Back to the future.” movie.
Me, too!
The Professor from ‘Back to the Future’ reminds me of how my hair usually looks! Well, maybe it’s not quite that bad.
π
A time machine. Where would I go? Forwards or backwards? I’m not sure. I don’t want to see any Morlocks (sp?) though!
That’s a very good point, S.E…
so many choices…
it would be a real challenge to try decide where to visit first!
π
Fab picture. Lived near Traverse City (Beualah/Crystal Lake) and wanted to open a store in Leland. Wonderful lake there.
You just brought me back. Miss northern Michigan and the beauty.
Many thanks
Annabelle would be SO jealous! I might be, too (during the summer, anyway)!
Thank you so much, Ms. B… you are very, very kind!
π
Now I feel the need to wear a big wool sweater. π
Me, too, Mel!
Is it spring yet?!
π
I’d love to see this one bigger so I can explore all the little details! Love it.
Thanks so much, Mr. B! Sadly it kind of falls apart when you see the details (I removed many of the modern ‘elements’, but there are still plenty of 3 tab asphalt shingles, etc. to go around. If it weren’t for those pesky nets…
π
Somehow I doubt that it all falls apart!! LOL. Great image nonetheless!!
Just like pulling off the duct tape!
Thank you so much, sir!
π
Great effect and composition. Can you pre-order your time machine after they deliver it to you ? I’m waiting to see if I got myself one for Christmas.
Hahaha…
you’d think… considering… they’d be able to get far enough back in time to deliver the thing on schedule! Talk about poor customer service! π
Oh boy! Our future home! ;P
I still think after one month of winter you might feel a bit differently.
π
Napoleon Dynamite, blahahahah Gosh!
I feel like that was me in High School.
Just a bit.
IDIOT!
π
I’m speechless…. It’s amazing picture.
You are always so very kind, Ms. B!
I thank you!
π
Yes I can see where you are coming from on this one but it is still a worthy piece of art and definitely interesting SIG π
Androgoth
Yeah… there’s so much happening in this, I think a slightly more blurred background would help calm things down a bit (and help disguise some of the more modern elements). And with those nets it would be a real trick to mask everything off nicely. Oh well… good excuse to go back and try again, right?!
Thank you very much, A.G.!
π
a real nostalgic feel to this one. you’ve got my vote on this one – hook, line & sinker π
seriously, well done. thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! I’m very happy to hear that, because it’s definitely what I was going for! I still wish I would have done a better job in-camera, but I think it gets the idea across, anyway!
π
I think it kind of makes it more interesting with the background, it’s like WTF? A house and then the sailboat. At first it just feels off, which is just so much fun. π And then I love the tone of this. Just wonderful.
You are very kind, Katie, thank you!
It gets really ambiguous looking with the low vantage point…
there is a narrow ‘canal'(?) / channel / dock that runs between two rows of shops here…
it’s a really fun place to visit!
π
this photo is dreamy. i can imagine a stillness to that place, like time treats it differently…
I’m so happy to hear that, Cursi –
I did my best to bring out some of that timelessness in this image…
it’s kind of a touristy spot, but it is still pretty cool… it has a ton-o-charm!
π
Damned phone! I like everything about this photo π
Technology can be ridiculously frustrating at times!
I thank you, sir!
π
WOW! This is my kind of photo! LOVE IT! It would go sooooooooo well with my house decor… that by the way is sailing to Spain!
Aw, thanks Juana!
I’m so happy to hear that things are on track
(moving is always such a hassle)!
π
Yes, it wouldnβt hurt to be a bit blurrier is what I was thinning when I saw this photo… Not! It looks great! When are you coming to Iceland so that I can learn some of your skills?
Hahaha… why thank you, sir!
I would LOVE to visit Iceland someday (from the photos / TV shows I’ve seen it looks like an amazing place)!
π
Nice composition and processing π
Thank you very much, Eden!
I wish I had used shallower D.O.F., but other than that, I was pretty happy with this one.
