Last Christmas I decided to make my mother a St. Michael piece. I’d make a drawing and layer that into a mixed media collage. Only one problem… who do you book for that modeling gig? In the end I wound up using Michelangelo’s David as a reference for my drawing. Clearly this is an identity crisis just waiting to happen.
Jason Bourne: “I’m definitely Kane. I just had a meeting as Kane. And he knew me as Kane. So I’m definitely Bourne. I’m also definitely Kane.”
Matt Damon – The Bourne Identity
About this image: charcoal drawing on Bristol Board
Did you know David was uncircumcised? Yes, of course I checked!!!
No word on Michelangelo π¦
Hahaha…
Did I mention I probably won’t be doing much research today? It’s Monday. Only so much effort I’m willing to put in, you know.
π
HA!
Now I do, anyway!
π
Very helpful when playing Trivial Pursuit
That brown wedge is mine, now!
π
I like them uncircumcised π
I didn’t think it was possible for marble to blush…
but just look at him!
π
This is my favorite comment thread of the day.
But really, how could you top David?
My readers are the best, aren’t they?!
See – you totally can’t say no! Because that totally includes you, Megan!
π
The Bourne Identity series are my favorite movies! ^ u ^
Me, too, Cristina!
I’ve seen them all many times…
(although I don’t watch the last one as much as the first two… not that I don’t like it… just that it kind of bums me out that it’s the last one)!
π
That’s gorgeous, SIG.
Thank you so much, Ms. D…
that is very kind of you to say!
π
That is just stunning, Sig! No joke, it nearly looks just as the original…Bravo, my friend!
Hugs, xx
You are always so kind, Deb! Thank you very, very much!
π
I keep thinking your drawings are photographs. Very cool, considering I make stick figures look bad. Well done!
Hahaha… with your artistic talent I very much doubt that’s true, Eden!
Thank you very much, just the same, though!
π
Wow, very cool indeed.
Many thanks, MJ!
π
Beautiful, Bob. It’s been ages since I’ve done any drawings in charcoal . . . but I still have a box around here somewhere.
I will start with something a bit less challenging than what you’ve accomplished here. π
I would love to see some of your drawings, Nancy!
I know they would be wonderful!
π
Amazing! You have such great drawing talent! The persepective is very nice here.
That is very kind of you, M.P… thank you!
Yeah… I definitely can’t take credit for the perspective, though (having never seen the real thing I had to use a reference photo I found in one-o-my art history books…)
π
Wow. I too thought it could have been a photograph. Love the Bourne movies, too.
That is very kind… thank you!
I’ve watched them more times than I can count (and I’m not done yet, either)!
π
HOld on…Kane’s a wrestler.
Ha!
Bearman… from the top-rope!
π
Absolutely superb SIG… I had it pegged as a photograph until I read the write up…
That is wonderfully kind of you to say, FS…
many thanks, sir!
π
SIg, this is wonderful. At first glance I also believed it to be a photo.
How do you do
that Voodoo
that you do
so well?
amazing and beautiful as always.
Thank you very, very much, Ms. B!
Hahaha…
Eh. Blending stumps. And the odd Q-tip. And lots of Coke (sometimes with a splash of rum).
π
Perfect
What a wonderfully kind thing to say, N.M…
thank you so much!
π
Have I mentioned before what a fine, fine artist you are? I mean, seriously fine! Amazing drawing, Inky!
You are always so kind, Dishy…
thank you very, very much (as always)!
I sincerely appreciate it!
π
Very lifelike. I thought it was a photo of a statue.
He looks mad. Probably because he had to pose with a hat on made of cake frosting.
Thank you very much, sir!
Hahaha… I guess I can understand that. I’d be upset if I was that close to some frosting and had to stand still getting hungrier and hungrier…
π
wow, without gushing too much and becoming out of character, this is quite amazing. and i do like your images on this blog theme’s background.
a number of years ago i had the opportunity to meet him in person. he hasn’t changed much from then until now. i guess it’s like with puppies and dogs. the first year the changes are incredible, but after all they just look the same from day to day. trees are similar too, although the first few years it is much more obvious that they are growing. after awhile they settle into a groove and they seem to stay the same for a long time.
looks like David has settled into a groove.
urk. enough silliness. in all seriousness, this is excellent! and i have yet to see the bourne identity. have only seen the 3rd episode, and still want to watch the first two. one day!
thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much, P&K… that is very kind of you to say!
Hahaha… yeah… I know exactly what you are talking about. Kind of like my cat. If she were more… marble-ish.
I really enjoy all three movies, although I prefer the first two. The funny thing is, that’s only because I know the third is the ‘last one’, and it kind of bums me out there aren’t more to follow (if that makes any sense)…
π
OMG….you drew that! I’m speechless.
Every one and then one turns out okay-ish… it’s kind of the luck-o-the draw.
Thank you very much, J.G.!
π
Your Creativity really works here my friend excellent π
Thank you so much for your kindness, Jake!
I appreciate that very much!
π
I agree some others here….very impressive drawing!!!!
That is very kind of you, Mary…
thank you!
π
I would have been happy to model, although my hair might not have achieved the desired curl you were looking for.
Hahaha…
I think your readers would have been after me for failing to fully/accurately capture the G.G. mystique, though…
π
i have often wondered was the model that Michael used nude or not.
I’ve also wondered who the models you see in famous paintings and statues were in general…
interesting…
π
When I was a student, I draw him at art class. There were many kinds of models like him in the class.
It seems a bit strange I hadn’t drawn him before!
I bet your drawing was very impressive, sir!
Sounds like a great class!
π
Excellent work ! You can not go wrong drawing on the old masters for inspiration ( does not apply to tattoo artists). Your range of artistic skills is always impressive. π
Hahaha,,,
Oh no! If I’d only known about the tattoo thing a bit earlier! Bring in the laser!
Thank you very much, sir!
π
This is a great idea for a new reality show. Instead of “Ink” it could be “charcoal”. You’d have a studio full of quirky wanna-bes and it would detail your daily life with demanding patrons. Only thing is, you’d have to drop the f-bomb and hate on people a lot. You know, to make it interesting. I’ll call Bravo!
Seconded!
Except… I told my people NO ORANGE M&M’s in my dressing room!
How that f**k am I supposed to work like this?!
(sorry you had to overhear that… just getting a little practice in…)
π
I wish I could draw like that Bob – very nice work π
Anyone can…
just takes a bit of practice
(and something tells me you are already there, too, sir)!
That is very kind of you, Martin… I thank you for that!
π
Too modest, you are, Robert! Time, practice etc of course count but, Robert, you have an exceptional talent. Don’t underestimate yourself, please.
I sincerely appreciate that, S.E… that is very kind of you to say…
It’s true, though… for the most part drawing is a technical skill that can be picked up like any other (it’s just that most people aren’t willing or don’t have the time to put into it… or give up on their efforts far to soon). Still, I’ll take a kind comment like this any day… thank you very so much, S.E.!
π
I’m still not buying that, Robert!
Tis the truth, I tell you, S.E…
you are always very kind.
π
It’s honesty more than kindness Robert.
I am budging one millimetre: talent without work will not fully blossom.
Well, in all honesty, you are always very kind, S.E…
I humbly thank you for that!
π
Once again, I mistook this for a photo and was like, “Whatevs. I could’ve taken that.”
But it’s an effin’ drawing. You bastard.
HAAAAA!
The hardest I’ve laughed all f*****g day!
Thanks, U.M.!
π
Michelangelo is always ok π Good shot π
An almost unbelievable talent, wasn’t he Ms. B?!
π
Great work SIG
and I too enjoyed the Bourne trilogy…
I think that the first one was the best
although I did rather like Ultimatum π
Have a great rest
of Tuesday now SIG π
Androgoth
Thank you very much, A.G!
Pretty good films, aren’t they? The only thing I don’t like about the third is my knowing it’s the last one…
I wish there were at least 3 more!
Thanks again, A.G.!
Have a good one, too, sir!
π
I thought you took a neat photograph of the statue.
That is really good.
Who needs a camera? Just take SIG along!
That’s incredibly kind, sir… thank you so much!
It might be a bit of a wait, though…
I think it takes me longer to make one of these silly drawings than it did Michelangelo to carve a masterpiece out of a chunk of stone!
π
You drew this? Wow, colour me impressed. And you’ve reminded me I need to watch the Bourne series again…
Thank you very much, J.P!
Bourne-on!
π
Your drawings never cease to amaze me, Robert.
Also, I’m sorry I’m so late in coming to this post, my life and head have been somewhat complex lately and I’ve been very slow in doing my usual rounds.
No need to appologise, S.E… you are always so incredibly good about visiting! I completely understand… life is complicated, and blogging eats-up a ton of time (that isn’t always available to begin with)!
Anyway, I just hope that everything is okay and you are doing well, S.E.!
π
Don’t worry, my friend, things improve apace and I’m learning and growing!
I’m very, very happy to hear that, S.E…
I was a bit worried…
π
All I can say is Wow! Beautiful artwork. You are quite talented.
Thank you very much, Ms. F… that is very kind…
π
Dude! That’s a drawing??? You got some mega talent, there!!
That’s mega kind of you to say, Mr. B!
Thanks a million, sir!
π
So it’s actually St David??? Or maybe St Michael’s surname is Angelo??? Another one that I thought was a photo. Excellent work Robert.
Hahaha… confusing, isn’t it? Somebody chisel a name tag for that guy already!
Thank you so much, Mr. M! That is very kind of you, sir!
π
I’m a little late getting to this party, but this is a beautiful work, SIG. I think you must have been channeling Michelangelo. (Hopefully not Jason Bourne.) π
You are always right on time, Ms. C! Thank you!
Hahaha… well, I don’t remember channeling anyone… wait… that might not be a good sign!
π
As always, very impressed by your artwork. As always, I thought it was a photo until I read your text!
Thank you so much for your continued kindness, Nigel!
I sincerely appreciate that, sir!
π
Great skills SIG!
Many thanks, C.O.R.!
π
You should post the completed work sometime! I think it turned out great.
That is very kind of you, Annabelle, thank you!
Now I really wonder. I wish I’d done a few things differently
(the number one thing that bothers me is the subject reference, though… I think.)
π
