It’s not just Jake. I get this look a lot. Reminds me of a guy at the DMV, hoo too.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

It’s Hedwig’s angry neighbor! 😀 I wonder what kind of sound does an owl make.
Who?
Who is on first!
🙂
Hahaha… good call, Cristina!
I seemed to be hearing a lot of different noises…
Now I’m not sure I can remember which sound came from which bird (or if they are a ‘usual’ sound for them to make)… that’s a very good question!
🙂
Ha ha ha! He does look rather unimpressed/peeved! Like a bored magistrate from tv land, or something.
I went to that site – those owls are amazing looking. Abby’s very pretty, I find.
Ha! So true! It’s an owl-run kangaroo court!
She is, isn’t she? Many of them are… Annabelle was particularly taken with Frazzle… he’s much smaller than you might expect from looking at the photograph…
🙂
ACK!!!! FRAZZLE!!! He had me at “hooaweee”! He is so cute I freak out and literally start laughing and crying simultaneously every time I see him. He’s a one-eyed eastern screech owl and I love him. Have you ever seen the video of the girl who loves cats? That’s about the level of epic reaction I have over this tiny cycloptic owl. Did I mention I love him? Because I love him.
Frazzle?! He doesn’t look like Fraz to me.
Hahaha…
it must be a very distant connection…
🙂
So… what you are saying is… you love him?
Because that’s the general impression I’m forming.
He seemed to like you too… he even ‘talked’ to you for a while, Annabelle!
🙂
LOVE HIM!
You Dhooooo?!
🙂
I get that look from my cats sometimes.
Ha! Glad it’s not just me, Laura…
I was starting to get a funny feeling…
🙂
Did you wake him up for this photo? It’s not nice to wake night owls. (he, he, he)
Where did you see this guy? The kids and I love it!
Hahaha… that is a good point, Ms. D! He seemed to be awake at the time, but maybe it was about time for his nap!
This one was taken at the World Bird Sanctuary in St. Louis…
🙂
Isn’t that like cheating? 🙂
Hahaha…
well… yes.
The important thing to remember here is that I really have no pride to speak of. Whatsoever. Like… none. So, that helps a bit.
🙂
That is one seriously unimpressed-looking owl. If he was as grumpy as he looks, I hope you kept your distance!
Hahaha… he doesn’t look too thrilled, does he?
I even stayed behind the fence… right where I was supposed to!
🙂
Lol…This is the look my husband gives me when he don’t like one of my ideas.
Great shot!
Hugs, xx
Hahaha…
glad I’m not the only one, Deb!
I was beginning to think it might just be me!
🙂
AMAZING photo, Inky! We saw one of these flying in the sanctuary behind our house – Only wish we’d seen ours closer than say, oh.. 500 ft!
Thank you so much, Dishy!
I hear you! And usually I only hear them! (We have an owl or two that lives around here, but I’ve yet to actually see it)!
🙂
Wonderful shot. It is one of those ” does not suffer fools gladly” expressions. If it comes from a spouse, you are in trouble ( not that that ever happened to me of course).
Hahaha… so true!
I would imagine.
I mean, I wouldn’t know, either.
We’re both just speculating here.
Clearly.
🙂
Beautiful! Well, creepy. But also beautiful!
Is it just me, or does that totally look like . . .?
Those dots are a link. Non-underlining WordPress layout!!
I know!
What’s the deal with that, right?
😦
Helo, UM!
(my computer is being stupid and I’m having a difficult time loading your blog right now, but I’ll get there… I’ll get there, UM! HAHAHA *in my best maniacal Newman*)
🙂
Looks like if he could talk he’d be saying, “Not. Funny.”
Hahaha… if he could manage to keep it that clean.
I got the impression he’d break out the big verbal guns on me!
🙂
Very wise looking old bird…he looks to me like he might be thinking…I wish these people would just GO AWAY! 🙂
Hahaha… I got the very same impression.
Come on, guy… I only wanted to borrow a cup of flour!
🙂
I think he’s beautiful. I too have heard an owl (once or twice) in the woods behind my house, and wish I could’ve actually seen it. Meanwhile, my dove makes owl-like sounds all day – Hooohoooo, Hoohooooo.
He’s quite the dapper looking gent, isn’t he, Spectra?!
Looks like he could totally pull off a fedora (if we cut some holes in it first)!
🙂
Oh, please! Put him in a hat 😀
Hahaha…
originally he was going to be my Mardi Gras post and Annabelle told me I should Photoshop some beads on him…
🙂
Nice! Great comp!
Thanks, Eden!
It took forever for him to turn around… I wish I’d have been a bit lower, but for all the waiting… I guess it worked out okay!
🙂
seems to be a little angry?
Indeed!
Looks a bit like he got up on the wrong side of the nest!
🙂
I really like this photo! Where I live, the owl is the town mascot. Keep in mind that this is in Europe and not here in the US, where every school has a mascot. Not the same thing.
The owl also brings me back to my childhood when I play Zelda. I think it may have been Ocarina of Time.
I don’t know if I ever played Zelda…
I know a lot of my friends were really into it, though…
(it was a bit longer before I got a system, I think… my memory is kind of working against me here, though…)
🙂
Interesting! I didn’t know about that, Mel! Cool!
I guess it’s probably a bit more classy than having a yearly pickle festival, or something like that, too, right?!
🙂
That is an awesome looking bird! We all need to get “haircuts” like that to look WSE. 😀
Hahaha…
I’m already all set, Nancy
(go cowlicks, go)!
🙂
Love this shot! I’ve seen that look, “What time are you going to have my daughter home…?”
Hahaha… good call, Patti!
that’s a real *gulp* moment for sure!
🙂
Looks like someone just asked him, ‘Hey! What makes you so great?” 😉
Hahaha…
either that, or he was trying to ask me that. Or both.
🙂
EXACTLY the look my toddler gives me when I embarrass him.. which is often… and always.
I thought rendition of ‘Poker Face’ was going over well…
at first…
🙂
You blinked, I win!!!
D-oh!
I’m using toothpicks next time!
🙂
This is one of my favourite photographs so far
SIG I really do like these owls, indeed there are
some barn owls just across from where I write
and…Yes nocturnal hoots are very nice to hear
Have a fine rest of day / evening SIG
Androgoth
Oh, wow! That’s wonderful to hear, A.G.! Thank you!
I don’t know if I would have guessed that! To tell you the truth, I wasn’t too sure about this one… but I thought that look on his face was fun enough to share, anyway.
Thanks again, A.G.!
I hope you have a wonderful day, too!
🙂
You’re right about the look on his face,
and you have captured him extremely
well SIG, but how long did you have to
wait to get the perfect photograph? 🙂
Excellent work…
Androgoth
Hahaha… well, I guess I might have stretched the truth about how long I had to wait (although it was a few minutes at least). Felt a bit longer, though, because it was a bit chilly in the wind that day!
Thanks so much, A.G.!
I sincerely appreciate that – I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
🙂
handsome bird, wonderfully captured!! 🙂
I appreciate that, Mr. B, Thank you!
Nature photography is defiantly not my strong suit (I generally leave that to pros such as yourself), but I thought he was giving off an interesting enough look to make-up for that.
🙂
Pros!?? LOL. You sir, are the pro!!!
Oh, man…
I wish!
Maybe in 20 or 30 years I’ll start getting somewhere… but I plan on having fun along the way, too.
🙂
This is priceless. i want to look like this…. I DO look like this… disturbed before morning tea.
Hahaha…
I know exactly what you mean, Ms. S… I’m the very same way. Only with Coke. Speaking of which…
🙂
Very nice owl shot. Though it does look as if you may have tried his patience. “If that guy takes one more picture, I’m going to swipe his camera.”
Hahaha… good call, sir!
I was thinking the very same thing!
(it’s probably good we were all on the same page… that could have gotten ugly)!
🙂
If that’s his intimidating look, it’s certainly working.
Have a great weekend, SIG!
Hahaha…
it’s my bird ‘muscle’.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend, too, Ms. C!
🙂
Goblin is by far my favorite! But, I like Jake’s presence. Owls are my favorites.
They are very interesting creatures, aren’t they? Jake does seem to demand attention, doesn’t he? They all seemed to have their own personalities… kind of neat.
🙂
want want want
Something tells me he would have looked much happier to see you than me, N.M.!
🙂
How scary. The eyes are so impressive.
He does seem to have a very intimidating look about him, doesn’t he, Cocomino?!
🙂
Yep, everyone it’s that time of year again, Robert is one year wiser today! HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPILLEDINKGUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!
Hey! Happy Birthday, Sig! Thanks for sharing, Annabelle.
Another year older and wiser…just like the owl.
Enjoy!
Thanks so much, Nancy!
Well, I do look a bit like him, I guess!
And I might be old, but… at least I’m old, I guess!
🙂
Happy birthday, SIG!
Thank you very much, Laura!
I might be old, but at least… I’m old!
🙂
Hahaha…
by now I’m nearly as intelligent as the average piece of furniture (particle board pieces only, of course)!
Thank you very much, Annabelle!
I love you, too!
🙂
Love the coat but those eyes . . . he keeps his coat and I keep my distance. And Happy Blogday to you!
Hahaha… he doesn’t really look like he’s inviting a closer look, does he? I guess I’m giving him a bit of a bad time, though… in person he seemed a little less intimidating (I think the high angle really exaggerated those furrowed lids…)
Thanks so much, Ms. K!
🙂
cool shot!
answering the question you left on my blog about the iphone–i don’t see why you couldn’t pick one up on ebay or something. without the service or the ability to get on the 3G network you’d just need to connect to a wireless network to download the apps (if you want to use apps) and then start snapping. go for it 🙂
Thanks, U.M.!
That sounds great… I think it would really help me improve my street photography because I wouldn’t feel quite as self-conscious as I do when I’ve got the DSLR out, people would probably be less bothered by it, I’d hopefully always have it with me etc… so… I might just have to look into that. Now… if I could just borrow a few of your skills…
🙂
yes, street photography is a bit easier. people are easily fooled when you use a mobile phone–they often think you are just texting or ignore you completely. and i think you’ve got plenty of mad skills of your own– you don’t need me!
I really can’t speak from experience, but that was my guess exactly, U.M.
Well, the first part, anyway.
🙂
fabulous, fabulous , fabulous!!
Many thanks, J.G…
I had a lot of fun… not sure if Jake did, though!
🙂
Very nice portrait Bob – My Good Lady is a master of that look… 😉
Thanks so much, Martin!
Hahaha… I think it’s a popular one… I see it ALL the time!
🙂
Great image my friend , I define It “EYE TO EYE ” nice post 🙂
Hahaha…
thanks so much, Jake
“Eye” like the sound of that!
🙂
I love that face. What a hoot! 🙂
Urk, couldn’t resist the pun. Seemed like such a wise thing to do at the time. 😀
Hahaha…
Love it! *buh dun dun*
🙂
Just heard it’s your Bday. A
littlebig bird told me. Have a good one. Have a great year ahead full of unexpected blessings. Happy Birthday!Hahaha… I guess the bird is out of the bag… or… something like that!
Thank you so very much, P&K!
That is very kind of you to say!
🙂
heh… cool look from the bird, actually, he looks like he’s ready for a snack!
Hahaha… absolutely, Nigel!
I hadn’t thought of that! Poor guy just wanted me to share my Cheetos!
🙂
Love the new look of the site… and this image! How did you get so damn close? Or was this through the use of an amazing lens?
Thanks so much, Diva!
I thought the grays complimented the images a bit more… which is cool!
A bit of both, actually! It’s a pretty big lens, but we were at the World Bird Sanctuary when I took this (so I was able to get really close, too)!
🙂
they should start hoo tooing here soon.
Ha! Hoooo should start hoo tooing?
🙂
Our Assistant Manager at work often gets that look. Great closeup photo
Hahaha…
It seems like I receive that look a lot more than I give it…
hmm… now that I think about it, that might mean something.
🙂
It’s also a portrait of me 1st thing in the morning before coffee
Hahaha…
and me before my Coke!
🙂
I adore owls. We have had a couple of these over the years. I nurse them back to health and turn them loose. They never go too far.
Red.
That sounds fascinating, Red!
I’ve never been that close to one… the wildlife sanctuary where I took this photo is the closest I’ve ever come to an owl… it was a lot of fun!
🙂
They are simply amazing. They are as predatory as hawks and falcons, but smarter than both. They can be very tolerant whilst you tend them, but once in the pink, they go back to being predators. We had a momma barn owl and a female screech owl nest in the barns. They are great because they keep down the rodents and the snakes. Most people consider that a double bonus 😉
Red.
Wonderful! 🙂
Thank you very much Ms. B!
🙂
Amazing! Both bird and photograph.
He was a lot of fun…
although I really didn’t seem to be entertaining him!
Thank you very much, sir!
🙂
