It might have been easier to photograph the baseball and smoke separately and then merge them in Photoshop, but… eh. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Crash Davis: “Relax, all right? Don’t try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they’re fascist. Throw some ground balls… it’s more democratic.”

Wish you the same!
And I just love the image. π
Thank you very much! π
And thank you very much! π
This image is smokin’ ! Have a great weekend.
Many thanks! I appreciate that! I hope you had a good one, too!
π
Wonderful!
Thank you very much!
π
Sweeeeet shot! Love it.
I’m very happy to hear that! Thank you!
π
Not if you try to breathe through your eyelids. π
How great was Bull Durham?
You know what’s kind of sad is that it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen Bull Durham… so I can’t remember too much. It must have made an impression on me, though, because when I was thinking ‘baseball’ it’s one of the first films that came to mind! π
A smokin’ image Robert! You never disappoint!!! Have a fabulous weekend! Robyn
You are incredibly kind to say so, Robyn – as always! Thank you very much! I hope you had a great one, too!
π
Ah, smokin’!! Love it. You must have had to throw this really fast and then been so quick with your camera to capture it! Well done!!! You are master. Love the quote.
Hahaha… well… you know. It did take two tries. π
You are far too kind, Amy! Thank you very, very much!
π
You’re SMOKING! π
And you’re incredibly kind as always, Nancy! Thank you!
π
Not sure how you did it, but it’s pretty neat.
Thanks, Binky! Just some flash bounced off the wall to illuminate the ball, and a quick burst with a flashlight at some incense I had set-up right below the ball. Not too complicated a set-up, but it still took me a few tries to get some ‘interaction’ between the ball and the smoke that I liked.
π
Wondered why my smoke alarm was going off, because I wasn’t even in the kitchen! Next week, smoking broccoli? Have a great weekend!
Hahaha… I thought I was the only one who set off the odd kitchen smoke detector (either with or without broccoli)!
Many thanks, Patti! I hope you had a good one, too!
π
It’s like a fire ball. Nice.
Thank you very much, sir! I had been wanting to try this for some time, now.
π
excellent!!!
Many thanks, sir!
π
Brilliant image SIG
Thank you very much, Astra!
π
This is one ball that needs precision striking or fear
the consequences π¦ *gulp* I have heard of a smoking
gun but this is pure genius SIG π
The delicate intricacy of the smoke against the harsh
reality of the ball makes this piece of art stand out from
the crowd. A superb offering with a touch of class π
Indeed, it is absolutely brilliant π
Have a fun Friday and a wicked weekend my great friend π
Andro
Hahaha… it’s one way to pad the stats I guess!
Thank you very much, sir! You are incredibly kind to say so! This was one of those shots that have been on my ‘to-try’ list for quite some time… so it was nice to ‘strike’ it off already!
And I thank you again, Andro! I hope you had a fantastic weekend as well!
π
You should bring these ideas forward SIG as you always manage to excel no matter what the project is, which is amazing I think π
Have a fun Monday and enjoy everything π
Andro
Very good combo I can see this in a sports article! The ball used in a no hitter maybe?
How incredibly kind of you to say, thank you! Hahaha… it’s safe to say I would certainly have had no part in that (unless I was one of the unfortunate guys fanning with the bat). π
LOL I would be right there with you fanning!
nice work!
Thank you very much!
π
awesome! Go Mariners! with apologies to any non-Mariners fans π
Many thanks! No worries, P&K! There’s plenty of room for any and all baseball fans in this smokey ballpark! π
Great Masterpiece Bob π
Thank you very, very much, Jake!
π
I keep hearing Jim Carry in “the Mask” – smokin!
Ha! Well… you know… ‘The methane emissions really pick up the colors.’ Er… the tonal range, anyway. π
that looks super cool π
How very kind of you to say! Thank you so much!
π
Neat! I can’t believe you didn’t add the smoke in Photoshop, but I also can’t can’t believe you didn’t. What kid did you steal the ball from, though? Because I just don’t quite buy you and your wife as the tossing-around-the-pigskin-in-the-backyard types. And I realize that a pigskin is something else, but you know.
Dang… good call, U.M! This was an idea I’ve wanted to try for quite some time now… but (as you’ve guessed) we didn’t happen to have a lot of baseballs just laying around. The last time I went to visit my family I ‘borrowed’ one from my old room just to try this out. π
Smokin.
Where there’s smoke… I’ve probably been ‘cooking’.
π
A picture speaks a thousand words but this speaks just one “SPEED”. An excellent shot. I’m amazed how you come up with these brilliant photo ideas.
You are far too kind Mr. M! Hahaha… maybe I was hit with one too many pitches when I was growing-up…
π
SiG, I am in absolute awe that you come up first with the ideas, then the most amazing executions! Love the dynamism in this great shot and peace on the smoke!
Thank you very, very much, Ms. K! I’ve been wanting to try this out for quite some time (just had to get a hold of a baseball first)! I’m not sure it turned out exactly like what I had in mind… gets the general idea across though, I think. Maybe. Kinda. π
Smokin’ ! π
And for once it’s not a result of a trip to my kitchen!
π
Woz that the Curve ball or the Slider… (yes I am trying to get an appreciation of baseball – but will admit to struggling… Happier with NFL). Nice work Bob π
I can relate, Martin! I really appreciate all the history in baseball… but more often than not I find myself watching football, basketball or hockey… (I guess I just grew-up playing them more often, maybe).
π
There must be a great story behind this ball. π
I suspect it has many tales to tell!
π
Excellent visual pun! π
Why, thank you, S.E!
π
