Tile with Flowers

Starting tomorrow I will be away, attempting to photograph… a wedding. I’ve never attempted event photography… please wish me luck… I’m not the best with this many moving parts (I really, really hope I don’t screw it up)! Have a great weekend, everyone – see you in a week or so!

  1. Wow wedding photography, I hope you enjoy it and are
not expected to film the honeymoon or it could be do9dgy 😦 lol
Just kidding and if this excellent piece of artistry is anything
to go by, then your wedding photographs will be a breeze πŸ™‚

No way will you screw it up SIG
you are too much of a perfectionist πŸ™‚
    Enjoy your new experience and
    know that everyone here knows
how brilliant you are πŸ™‚ Have fun πŸ™‚

    • I’ll tell you, Andro… anytime I’m attempting more than an informal shot of one or two people it could be dodgy! I tend to be a bit shy, so I’m a little nervous about ‘directing’ so many people… and even more concerned that I’ll just get so nervous I start doing stupid things and missing important moments!
Needless to say I very much appreciate the pep-talk, my friend! Thank you very, very much!
      πŸ™‚

      • Don’t worry just go with the flow, and the
wedding guests, bride and groom will all
        sing to your tune πŸ™‚

Remember they are enjoying the best day
of their lives and so being polite and doing
what you say will be the norm πŸ™‚

If not, then the drinks are on me and they can
take their own photographs πŸ™‚ lol Have fun with it πŸ™‚

        • Many thanks, Andro! I sincerely appreciate it!
I tried! Fortunately everyone is very nice, because as you know event photography is not the sort of thing I do very much of… at all… ever.
It did seem to go better than I expected… maybe. Although I definitely did struggle in the areas I was worried about (the more formal group stuff and the on-the-fly one shot at the moment kind of things). I did manage to get a few details that seemed to turn out okay, though… so hopefully those will help balance things out a bit.
          πŸ™‚

    • That is one of my biggest concerns, which (at the moment include):
      1. ‘Directing’ / ‘Posing’ that many people for ‘formal’ portraits
      2. Missing important and uneasily reproduced moments
      3. Being so generally nervous I miss everything through some ridiculous combination of camera settings, etc.
Thank you very much for the kind thoughts!\

  2. My slogan use to be, “I don’t do weddings”. My theory was that if you put two brand new Mother In Laws in the same room you had my definition of hell.
Don’t worry, I was never as talented as you. You will do an amazing job.

  3. You have an excellent compositional eye , as is demonstrated in today’s post, so the wedding thing will be just fine. Your clients selected you so they must be expecting the unexpected & creative as opposed to the posed fairy-tale stereotypical interpretation.
Go for the natural & unanticipated – aside from the mother-law arm wresting bout, right up there with the bird dance. πŸ˜€

    • The nice thing this post is that flowers tend to move a bit closer to my speed! Unless my allergies start to act up and I sneeze, that is!
Very kind of you to say, sir… I hope they will be happy. I wanted to create images that looked professional, but at this point I’d settle for ‘We don’t completely hate them. All.’
      πŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much! I was lucky in that everyone involved is extremely kind (and patient). Which is very fortunate, because event photography is definitely not part of my skill-set.
      πŸ™‚

  4. SIG, I would like to get married all over again, just so I can have you photograph the wedding – that’s how good you are. You’ll do great! Good luck catching the bouquet.

  5. Just lovely. Don’t worry about a thing, Robert! You’ll be great. Just keep telling everyone they look beautiful. That’s what they want to hear. I know with your artistry and keen eye, you’ll be phenomenal!

    • You spoil me, Amy! Thank you so much!!! The problem is that my eyes move faster than my brain! Oh well. Fortunately everyone is very nice. And they all looked beautiful, of course.
      πŸ™‚

        • Well… it happened… I think! I was kind of nervous so I can’t remember all the details. I think it went a bit better than I was expecting… although I wanted everything to be perfect, so… you know… okay-ish. Thanks so much, Amy! I’ve missed you, too!
          πŸ™‚

    • There is wedding photography in the air, T.B! And that’s probably where my camera was half the time, too (because my knees were really knocking for a while there)! What did you think of your experience?! I really like sneaking around behind the scenes and grabbing a few extra detail shots, etc, but I really struggle with the large group / formal and on-the-fly / only one shot at it kind of stuff. So it was really a bit of a challenge for me.
      πŸ™‚

  6. I’m sure you’ll go just fine taking photos tomorrow, Sig, but just the same I will wish you the best.
Love this artwork you offered us today!…looks great! πŸ™‚
My best to both you and Annabelle!

    • Thank you very, very much, Deb!
It seemed to go a bit better than I expected… of course I would have liked everything to have turned out as best as it possibly could have… but I tried!
      πŸ™‚

  7. dig the positioning of the flowers on the cool 1930’s (1940’s?) tile work.
trying to get out (on the internet- it beats watching reruns of Gilligan Island)) more.. miss your work Bob.
    Wonderful as always πŸ™‚
    ~R

    • Aw, thanks, LB! So very much! Well… I tried, anyway. I sure to wish I had a second chance at a few things (but I’m hoping that taken as a group the photos will be okay-ish). Fingers-crossed!
      πŸ™‚

  8. Hello…long time it seems like πŸ™‚ I love your alligator painting…very cool! And the “orange crush” photo was superb!!!! The Daisies on tile remind of a wedding. I am sure the wedding photos you took will be great! If you get permission from the bride and groom, maybe you will post one or two of them? Have a great weekend!

    • Hi there, Mary! It seems like you are spoiling me again, too! But I can live with that, I guess!
Maybe after they get a chance to look everything over (if I can figure-out a way to ask that doesn’t make them feel obligated to agree). And if I can take the hit to my pride. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, U.M! Yeah, this tile is down by the mailboxes in the entryway to our building. It tends to get a bit beat-up. I had to take advantage of that at some point (since I didn’t even have to worry about cleaning up).
      πŸ™‚

  9. Nice composition, SIG.
And as for the wedding – well if the photos don’t turn out, we know you can do illustrations. So maybe they’d like a graphic novel rendition instead of the usual wedding album. What do you say?

    • My thanks to you, Mr. H! I sincerely appreciate that!
I really like the sound of that! I wish I wasn’t so slow! Believe it or not it took me several weeks just to edit my sub-par snap-shottery (at this rate I might have the graphic novel done by the couple’s 50th anniversary… if I speed things up a bit)!
      πŸ™‚

  10. She loves me, she loves me not. Why do I suspect there is a body in the bath? Sorry ….. now, where did I leave my meds…..

    Good luck at the wedding.

  11. I copy @pegoleg who took the words right out of my mouth! I’m thinking you might even start a new trend in wedding photography with your unique SiGnature style. Have fun and best wishes to all!

    • Thank you very, very much, Ms. K! I sincerely appreciate your kindness!
Well… I tried… so that counts for… something… right?! Fortunetly everyone is incredibly kind (which is huge, of course)!
      πŸ™‚

  12. Am I the only person on earth who hasn’t seen the Big Lebowski? I guess I am. Meanwhile I like this photo–the tiles make me nostalgic because my bathroom floor in the house I grew up in looked like this. I like the flower placement, it’s kind of like a tile honeycomb pattern with daisies for the bees.

    • It’s CLASSIC! Classic I tell’s ya! Kind of funny in that people seem to either really love it or really hate it. I can recite most scenes in my sleep at this point… so… you know… I might have a problem.
Why, thank you, Madame! I’m trying to remember the floor covering(s) in the places I grew-up in now, too…
some very interesting linoleum, if memory serves (and knowing me it probably isn’t). πŸ™‚

    • I very much appreciate that, S.E.
While it went a bit better than I was anticipating (I think) I did struggle a bit where I expected it – the large group / formal photographs and a few of the faster ceremony things (being shy and slow isn’t very helpful for this kind of thing). I think I was able to get a few decent detail shots, though… so (hopefully) taken as a whole things will be okay. I just hope the couple is happy (because no one wants junky wedding photos)!
      πŸ™‚

  13. The picture looks good Robert. Now You don’t need any luck Robert. You are a great photographer my friend. But to settlle you nerves just meet the Dude at the In and Out Burger.

  14. Let us know how your
    wedding photography went
SIG πŸ™‚ I am sure everything
    was peachy πŸ™‚

Have a wickedly enjoyable Tuesday πŸ™‚

    Andro

    • Well… it… happened… I think!
To tell you the truth I was kind of nervous so I don’t remember too many of the details.
I just hope the couple will be happy with the results… that’s all I really care about at this point.
      πŸ™‚

  15. Hey are you on the honeymoon or what? πŸ™‚ lol
Whatever you are getting up to, I hope that it is
a great deal of fun πŸ™‚

    Andro

    • Just buried under a pile of sub-par photos and trying to post-process my way out of the mess!
Seriously… if I ever catch-up with the hack photographer who took a few of these…
      πŸ˜‰

  16. Have a nice start to your Monday SIG
and keep up the brilliant work my great
friend πŸ™‚ Hey where are you? πŸ™‚

    Andro

    • Aw, thanks, Malin! I’ve missed everyone here, too! Hopefully I will get a chance to stop by tomorrow and see what everyone has been up-to! Things went okay, I guess. I was able to fix things up a bit with post processing (which is why I’ve been gone for so long… I’m SO slow)!
      πŸ™‚

      • Hahaha… I think I learned to send a different photographer!
I had the most trouble where I was expecting it (large group / formal shots and on-the-fly / fast happening ceremony stuff). Fortunately the couple is very kind. And I think (or hope, anyway) I have enough detail shots to make-up for the stuff I botched the worst. πŸ™‚

    • Many thanks, sir! This was taken the entry to my building
(every time I’d stop to pick-up the mail I’d start ‘thinking’… a very dangerous thing for a guy like me πŸ˜‰ )

  17. Come on that man, where are you Robert?
I hope that you are alright my great friend, it
is not like you to be away without a word 😦

    Come back soon SIG πŸ™‚

    Andro

    • Sorry to worry you, Andro… that was kind of inconsiderate of me. 😦
I’m so slow… and I was hoping to get the wedding photographs all finished as quickly as I could, but I really should have dropped-in to say something while I was at it (I do apologize for that, my friend)! I hope to be back around tomorrow to say hello and see what you’ve been up to while I was away!
