Nucleus No. One

I was planning to share a photo today, but at the last minute I decided to re-process it. So, instead, here’s… another… nucleus (Nucleus No. Two here). Have a great weekend, everyone (I’m off to re-launch Photoshop).

Joel Barish: “Can you hear me? I don’t want this any more! I want to call it off!”

– Jim Carrey – Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

About this image:  aluminum ground bolted to 8″x10″ canvas frame… background is gel medium transfer of blurred periodic table… charcoal portrait (gel medium transfer)… charcoal circles (gel medium transfer) represent electron orbitals… hand painted aluminum element symbol and atomic number (acrylic).

Here’s a mixed media thing I made a while back. So… that happened.

General Maximus Decimus Meridius: “Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?”

– Russell Crowe – Gladiator

About this image: (where to start?) map drawn in colored pencil – stained  & tinted with acrylic; charcoal portrait – gel medium transfer onto painted paper – mounted on wooden frame; hand-built polymer clay mosaic tiles – painted with acrylic; all mounted in 12″x12″ stained wood panel

Nucleus No. Two

It seemed appropriate to post some mixed media today… especially since it’s the model’s birthday on Saturday!

Have a great weekend, everyone! And happy birthday, Annabelle! I love you!

Better Living Through Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

When asked to join the Better Living Through Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups EVENT I was thrilled! I was humbled! I was… off to restock my P.B.C. supply. A few minutes later, after consuming my newly acquired research materials, I had a brief moment of sheer panic when I realized ‘participation’ likely required ‘content’. Of some sort. Anyway, random info about what I came up with above… below. Right under a list-o-very talented folks who are also Living Better today! If you have a few moments please stop over and see what they’re up to! I’ll be doing just that… as I… execute a little more ‘research’.

On this historic day, otherwise known as Wednesday, 19 of your favorite humor bloggers are staging a WordPress coup. We have banded together to address the important topic, Better Living Through Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Yes, you read that right. Your eyes are fine. Well, they may not be fine – I really don’t know. But it does say “19 of your favorite humor bloggers” (or who SHOULD be your favorite bloggers). We are all presenting the same topic, each from his or her particularly unique perspective.

Why this topic? Why now?

Why not?

Click on the Reese’s Pieces link to gobble up the entire, yummy bag of 19 posts.

Bon Appetite!

Cat’s Head Point

Cat’s Head Point was quiet…. surprisingly… quiet…

Charlie Kelly: “Hello! Charlie Kelly here… local business man and cat enthusiast. Is your cat making too much noise all the time? Is your cat constantly stomping around, driving you crazy? Is your cat clawing at your furniture? Think there’s no answer? You’re so stupid! There is! Kitten Mittens! Finally, there’s a elegant, comfortable mitten for cats. I couldn’t hear anything! Is your cat one-legged? Is your cat fat, skinny or an in-between? That doesn’t matter, ’cause one size fits all! Kitten Mittens… you’ll be smitten! So come on down to Paddy’s Pub… we’re the home of the original Kitten Mittens! Meeeeeeoooooow!”

– Charlie Day – It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

About this image: faux tintype – digital photograph, highly modified

I built most of this curious contraption, but the text / ‘Devinette’ embroidery was outsourced. Hot-glue gunnery is problematic enough for me… it seems like operating a needle would really have been pressing my luck. Happy Mardi Gras, everyone!

Fresh Fruit

You might be thinking, “Is that… a little… um…” Well, maybe. But it’s completely made-up, so you get to create your own narrative. Which is more fun anyway. Right?

Ned Plimpton: “You don’t know me. You never wanted to know me. I’m just a character in your film.”

Steve Zissou: “It’s a documentary. It’s all really happening.”

Ned Plimpton: “Well, d**n you for that.”

About this image: Replicated supermarket ad created in Adobe Illustrator then printed, stained, distressed and collaged on 16″x16″ canvas – large text painted in acrylic and distressed – figure and fruit painted in acrylic – sides painted in white crackle/distressed acrylic with some torn bits of ad and painted text wrapping around

Five Stars

Turns out I’m not as good with spray paint as I’d hoped. At least on small scale (8″x8″-ish). So, for now, I’ve overlayed my illustrator MacArthur piece in Photoshop. I think the faux corrugated metal turned out okay, though. If only I could get all this olive drab paint off my face…

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Thanksgiving (faux T.T.V.)

If this image seems  odd, you’ve probably never been in my kitchen. Honestly, if it doesn’t  fall out of a can and into a microwave there is bound to be a small to medium sized inferno.

Anyway, I’ll be sure to ‘cook up’ something calmer for the big Monday show. Until then, have a wonderful holiday weekend everyone!
