Twain (in progress)

Friday is Mark Twain’s birthday so posting one of my author drawings seemed appropriate-ish (Poe here and Alcott here). I’ve been transferring these drawings into 3-D / Mixed Media pieces (about 95% complete) which I hope to finish in a decade or so. If I’m lucky.

Mark Twain: “Are you ever gonna finish one of these confounded ‘projects?’ I swear, son… you are slower than molasses on a winter’s morn’!”

Me: “Mole… asses?!” *giggle*

Mark Twain: *sigh* “I do declare… that boy may be a bit dull, but at least he’s plain-spoken!”

Coffin of The Singer of Amun, Henut-Wedjebu (1390-1353 B.C.)

One nice thing about camera phones is increased flexibility when reaching up/over the top of plexiglass enclosures. Because you never know when you might run into the lovely Singer of Amun.

Indiana Jones: “Meet me at Omar’s. Be ready for me. I’m going after that truck.”

Sallah: “How?”

Indiana Jones: “I don’t know, I’m making this up as I go!”

– Harrison Ford & John Rhys-Davies – Raiders of the Lost Ark

The circles were meant to represent electron orbitals. And Tungsten’s atomic number is 74. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine. This is the sort of thing that happens when I stare at my computer for too long.

Steve Zissou: “Ned, how many fingers am I holding up?”

Ned Plimpton: “I don’t know. That’s not my job. Too many to tell. How many finger…”

Steve Zissou: “He’s gonna be just fine.”

Of a Feather

I actually finished a painting in under a month. Which is warp speed… for me, anyway.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Captain Jean-Luc Picard: “Helm… warp one… engage!”

Patrick Stewart – Star Trek: The Next Generation

Here’s a mixed media thing I made a while back. So… that happened.

General Maximus Decimus Meridius: “Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?”

– Russell Crowe – Gladiator

About this image: (where to start?) map drawn in colored pencil – stained  & tinted with acrylic; charcoal portrait – gel medium transfer onto painted paper – mounted on wooden frame; hand-built polymer clay mosaic tiles – painted with acrylic; all mounted in 12″x12″ stained wood panel

Noisy Plant Parts

Sometimes I crank-up the ISO as far as it’ll possibly go just because I’m in the mood for some random noise. Good times.

Also, I’m shocked I haven’t killed this plant  yet… it’s remarkably resilient… whatever it is.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Ward Abbott: “Can you really bring him in?”

Alexander Conklin: “I think we’re past that, don’t you? What, do you have a better idea?’

Ward Abbott: “Well, so far, you’ve given me nothing but a trail of collateral damage from Zurich to Paris. I don’t think I could do much worse.”

Alexander Conklin: “Well why don’t you go upstairs and book a conference room. Maybe you can talk him to death.”

– Brian Cox & Chris Cooper – The Bourne Identity

Grunge Orchid

It’s been a busy weekend of getting very little accomplished. So… here’s… a… flowery thing. It might not look like much, but it does a decent Eddie Vedder impression. Should be able to do one, anyway. Grunge and all.

Smoke Abstract No. One

Where there’s smoke… hopefully there’s… not… my computer (it’s acting a bit strangely tonight). Awesome.

Tim Krizminski (inside elevator): “How do we know if the floor is gonna be on fire in one of these?”

Lt. Stephen ‘Bull’ McCaffrey: “Well… when the doors open… if it’s hot… don’t get out.”

– Jason Gedrick & Kurt Russell – Backdraft

Nucleus No. Two

It seemed appropriate to post some mixed media today… especially since it’s the model’s birthday on Saturday!

Have a great weekend, everyone! And happy birthday, Annabelle! I love you!
