Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada

Here’s my latest painting (with apologies to the good people at Kodak, and the fabulous city of Las Vegas, Nevada).

Trent: “They’re gonna’ give daddy the Rainman suite, you dig that?”

Mike: “Do you think we’ll get there by midnight?”

Trent: “Baby, we’re going to be up five hundy by midnight!”

Mike: “Yeeeeaaaaahhhhhh!”

Trent: “Vegas baby! Vegas!”

Mike: “Vegas!”

Window Shopping

So… here is a painting… that… I… painted. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Shop assistant: “Hello, can I help you?”

Vivian Ward: “I was in here yesterday, you wouldn’t wait on me.”

Shop assistant: “Oh.”

Vivian Ward: “You people work on commission, right?”

Shop assistant: “Yeah.”

Vivian Ward: “Big mistake. Big. Huge. I have to go shopping now.”

I kinda liked the lines… particularly the bridge’s cast-shadow (would’ve been nice to catch a train passing by, though). Have a great weekend, everyone!

Jack Whitman (after being thrown off a train): “Wouldn’t it be great if we heard a train go by in the distance?”

Peter Whitman: “Not really.”

Francis Whitman: “It’d probably be annoying.”

Is anyone else craving beans, or is it just me?!

Charlie Kelly: “How do hobos fit all this stuff into a bandana? It doesn’t make sense, man! We’re gonna need a towel, or a tablecloth or something, but… ahhh! It’s not gonna look cool! We’ll look like a******s!”

Four-Leaf Clover (faux wet plate collodion)

Black and white and (implied) green all over! Not exactly what I had in mind, but you get the idea.  Have a great weekend, everyone!

Murphy MacManus: “Yeah, it’s St. Patty’s Day, everyone’s Irish tonight.”

Victory Belle

I finally finished my ‘nose art’ painting (Glenn Miller, anyone?)!

Captain Miller (of propaganda): “… ‘The Statue of Liberty is kaput’ – that’s disconcerting.”

From Russia with Love

from_russia_with_love

I’m painfully slow, but this painting took f-o-r-e-v-e-r. Due to its scale I used a pin to paint quite a bit of the background (St. Basil’s Cathedral –  a building I’ve always had a crush on). Partially inspired by ‘From Russia with Love‘ and instant film  it seems pretty cool that 1963 was significant in the history of both… (according to my… um… ‘research department’, anyway).

Tatiana Romanova: “The mechanism is… Oh James, James… Will you make love to me all the time in England?”

James Bond: “Day and night. Go on about the mechanism.”

Administration Building, University of Notre Dame (faux wet plate collodion)

administration_building_university_of_notre_dame

Regulars might know I’ve been watching Notre Dame football since I was about 8 years old. Needless to say, Monday was a rough day for me (not the best ending to an incredible undefeated season). If any Bama fans are looking-in, congratulations on a very well deserved win. Crimson is predicted to be a popular color again next fall… I can see why… but no matter what happens I’ll be sticking with gold.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Stairs – Fort Belle Fontaine (faux wet plate collodion)

stairs_ft_belle_fontaine

A fake ambrotype of stairs at Fort Belle Fontaine. I wanted to grab a few photos of the cannon too, but it must have fallen into enemy hands, because it was… totally… not… there.

Capt. Jack Aubrey: “Right. Starboard battery, FIRE!”

2nd Lt. William Mowett: “One minute and ten seconds!”

Capt. Jack Aubrey: “Well done, lads. Extra ration of grog for all of you!”

Crew: “Huzzah!”

Rock Hill Chop Suey

Holy moly… I’ve been gifted a smart-ish phone! Pretty much all I did to the above in Photoshop was to airbrush a few things out… the rest was all done in-phone. Wild. If only I could figure out how to make a phone call.

Steve Zissou: “I’m on the echo box. Push the red button to answer.”

(I’ll label any photos taken and/or edited via phone in the ‘About this image’ info at the end of my posts… just in case anyone is curious.)
