It seemed appropriate to post some mixed media today… especially since it’s the model’s birthday on Saturday!
Have a great weekend, everyone! And happy birthday, Annabelle! I love you!
About this image: painted aluminum ground bolted to 8″x10″ canvas frame… background is gel medium transfer of blurred periodic table… charcoal portrait (gel medium transfer)… charcoal circles (gel medium transfer) represent electron orbitals… hand painted copper element symbol and atomic number (acrylic).
Man very creative, the bolts and washers enhances the image. A Modern and stylish art!!! Cheers Nonoy Manga
Thank you so much! I really like using random bits of hardware every now and then… and mounting this piece of aluminum seemed like all the excuse I needed to do that! Thank you again… you are always so very kind!
🙂
Wow SiG, you have outdone yourself on bringing all these elements together! Happy Birthday wishes to Annabelle and a great weekend to you both!
Any excuse I can find to make a mess with some art supplies!
Thank you so very much, Ms. K…
you are so wonderfully kind!
🙂
Great mix, Sig! You are so very creative. If I had half the talent you had, I’d be a very happy woman!
Happy birthday, Annebelle!!! ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬
xo
Holy cow, Deb! You are one of the most creative and talented people I know (and one of the kindest)! I am always inspired by your work… I have no idea how you can produce such a volume of such involved and high-quality material… ridiculously impressive! Always!
🙂
Would the 29 have anything to do with Annabelle’s age?
I’d better leave the math to Annabelle… that would be interesting, though, wouldn’t it?!
It’s a ridiculously vague reference to copper’s atomic number.
🙂
ohhhhhhhh…nm
Actually I WILL be 29 lol… but he made this a few years ago for me. It’s just a fun coincidence that he posted it for this birthday! 🙂
He originally picked copper for me as a tribute to my fiery-copper hair I believe. Or at least that is what I have decided… lol.
I’m psychic!!
*Swami music playing*
Nerds! Seriously, though, I love the copper look. And that font, strangely.
I’m more of a dork, though.
Nerds actually UNDERSTOOD science. And how to NOT start themselves on fire with the Bunsen Burner.
It’ll probably sound even worse when I tell you I don’t have a license for Helvetica… so… you know what that means!!! Arial!!! Yay!!! (or possibly Myriad Pro… but that didn’t seem quite as funny).
🙂
I like the “29” mixed message to go with the mixed media; most every woman over 30 wishes to stop the clock at 29. This piece conveys the message that Annabelle is elemental – to your happiness.
Happy birthday to her!
Hahaha… that goes for some dudes, too (I speak from experience)! Stopping the clock might not be enough for me… I need to do a bit of rewinding as well!
Thank you so much, Peg! You are always very kind!
🙂
What a sweet birthday tribute to Annabelle!
I’d like to add my own birthday tribute to her as well, but I’m a terrible artist, so I’ll just say Happy Birthday!
I find most folks who say that are just being modest, Ms. C… and I definitely suspect that is the case here!
And I thank you as well!
🙂
Your mixed media art is always amazing Robert. Dig that you did the Cu in copper. Looks perfect with the other materials and really, how many people will get it ? heh. You little imp you.
Happy Birthday to Annabelle
Thank you so very much, Ms. B! This was one of those ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ projects… and that’s just because the dang sing was so heavy!
🙂
a nice birthday gift for your Annabelle!
I hope she’s having a nice birthday (I doubt she would even say if she felt otherwise)!
🙂
Now that… is a m-f’n birthday card!
Bolted aluminum ground like how a REAL MAN does it. You should tell her you made the copper paint by crushing some sheet metal into pigment using only “these merciless bare fists!”
Me, I’m jus’ the wuss with flowers, so great job dude 🙂 !
Hilarious!
Reminds me of an old SNL skit where this couple was stranded on a deserted island and they were exchanging gits… he was giving her things like rocks that were shaped like a heart, and she kept giving him more and more elaborate things that she had somehow made… watches, etc. (she’d somehow mined and smelted ore, etc.)… pretty funny.
🙂
AWESOME!! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNABELLE!!
You are always so very kind, Juana!
Thank you!!!
🙂
What a lovely present for your wife,
I think that her modelling has brought
an even finer edge to your creative
artistry 🙂 The copper works very well
and your idea of the periodic table in
the background is a stroke of genius
as it portrays an even greater image,
the b&w with charcoal effect adds an
incredible depth to the whole piece 🙂
In essence this shows your work off
in a very pleasant taste, modernism
of a very fine quality my great friend
and thank you for offering it here for
us all to enjoy 🙂
Happy Birthday Annabelle 🙂
Androgoth
You are so very kind, A.G… thank you for your very thoughtful analysis!
I think I should have you ghost-write for me on explanations for all my stuff…
I feel like you can explain them far more elegantly than I ever could!
People would be shocked! They would say things like, ‘When did this guy learn how to write?’
Thank you again, Andro! Very much!
🙂
Hey I like the idea of Ghost Writer as it fits right in with my Space 🙂 I always like your imagination SIG and your art certainly adds a touch of class around our WordPress that is for sure 🙂
Have a wondrously nice rest of weekend and Happy Birthday to your wife, I am sure that with you around she is incredibly happy 🙂 Be well you two 🙂
Androgoth
Way cool, SIG! You’ve outdid yourself again. Will this be a present for Annabelle? Happy Birthday to her! It’s lovely. I wish I could see his one in person. Did you draw it as well?
and by “one” you mean???? 🙂
Oh….this one. This piece, picture. Oops 🙂 Whatever else could I mean?
Thank you so much, B.F! I sure wish I could… but I actually made this one a while ago (so I probably couldn’t pull that off very successfully)! I did indeed draw the portrait. Well, I drew it and then transferred it (with gel medium) onto the metal… I used to do quite a bit of that sort of thing… kinda fun… unless it tears!
🙂
S.I.G., you’re so talented. I didn’t know you could draw, too. You did a very nice on job on this. I could have never thought of doing something like this. 🙂
And you are so kind, B.F…
thank you very, very much!
Oh… I doubt that… I seriously doubt that anyone who has had the privilege of checking out your unbelievably creative writing would believe that for a minute!
🙂
Thank you! But I really can’t draw at all. You wouldn’t want to see anything that I might try to draw. I’ll just keep snapping photos 🙂
Well… I still don’t know about that!
But I’m happy to hear about that second part – I am looking forward to seeing more of your photography, B.F!
🙂
Happy Birthday Annabelle.
Only a brave man can reveal a woman’s age 🙂
It just happened to work out that way, Loon…
originally that was a vague reference to Copper’s atomic number…
kinda eerie, huh?!
🙂
Happy birthday, Annabelle!!
Premium pic, SIG. Love the different elements. Excellent mix.
Red.
Thank you very much, Red! Any excuse I can find to make a mess of the art table, you know!
🙂
I love this piece, SIG. Happy birthday to Annabelle. Mine is the next day. Same age, too! 😉
Thank you so much, Patti! And a very happy birthday to you as well!
Hahaha… the ’29’ just happened to be a coincidence… I originally painted that on there as a vague reference to copper’s Atomic Number.
🙂
Happy birthday, Annabelle!
Beautiful! And Happy Birthday to Annabelle.
That is very kind of you, Nancy! Thank you so much!
🙂
Hi….This is a great piece!!! I really really like this! And a happy birthday to your lovely wife 😀
Thank you so much, Mary!
🙂
Somebody seriously needs to stop setting their regular coffee cup and “Friends” size Central Perk coffee cup on this photo 🙂
HA!
I’m twitching so severely from all the caffeine I can barely type at this point!
Is it club soda for coffee ring stains?
🙂
Happy birthday! Make inky take you somewhere nice!
🙂
Really neat piece here, Sig! It’s such a statement in a gritty, urban way. I like the “Cu” and I read it as “see you” which is what lovely Annabelle is doing. Like she has caught YOU doing, well, whatever it is you’re doing and is thinking, “Man, that boy is a freak. But I love him, dammit.”
Happy Birthday Annabelle! Treat her right, Sig! 🙂
Very cool, M.P… I have to admit I hadn’t thought of that before! Hahaha and true!!!
That’s some wonderful advice, too – I’ll sure try!
🙂
Very cool piece, Robert.
And happy birthday Annabelle!
Why thank you, S.E!
🙂
I really love these mixed media ones you do. So unique and interesting. You’re so creative.
Happy Birthday, Annabelle!
Thank you so much, sir! I sincerely appreciate that!
🙂
Fantastic mixed media, SIG. Great model, too! (smile) Happy birthday, Annabelle!
Thank you very much, Ms. D!
And agreed!
🙂
Like it a lot, hope Annabelle has/had a lovely birthday. 🙂
Thank you very much, sir – I appreciate that!
I was hoping the very same thing… and I think she did… although I doubt she would ever really tell me if she didn’t!
🙂
Bolts. Twenty-nine. The sketch itself. Periodic table reference to copper. Wow. All of it. Brilliant.
That is incredibly kind of you to say, El… thank you!
It’s especially nice to her because when I start playing with so much random stuff I’m always a bit worried that it will all end up getting tied together properly.
🙂
Very nice Bob – a real mix of ideas and methods 🙂 Happy Birthday to your Good Lady too 🙂
Thank you so very much, Martin!
I will be sure to pass that along!
🙂
It looks amazing. I like it.
Happy belated Birthday to Annabelle. 🙂
Thank you so much, Ms. B!
That is very nice to hear!
🙂
This is awesome! 😀 Hope Annabelle a great birthdayyyyy!!!!
Thank you very much, Cristina!
I hope she did, too! (I don’t think she would tell me if she didn’t, though!)
🙂
Great work. Belated Happy. 🙂
Very kind of you as always, sir!
We thank you!
🙂
This is really good. Great design. Happy birthday, Annabelle.
Thank you very much!
It was a lot of fun, anyway… and an excuse for me to ‘work’ with a bunch of random stuff!
🙂
Reblogged this on Jamie Martinez Page.
missed this one earlier – glad you linked to it. very cool!
i think my crow gravatar is back at last and consistently – but for some reason it has caused me to appear as a stranger on everyone’s blog, requiring a moderation of a comment. but not to worry. this technology thing will NOT get the best of me 😀 and it really is me!
thanks for sharing this one. blog on! 🙂
so much for that – putting my foot down seems to have worked. 🙂
hope Annabelle’s birthday was happy!
Me, too, P&K!
I think it was… or, I certainly hope it was, anyway!
🙂
Thank you, P&K! Very much!
It’s looking good (over here, anyway)! And most of your comments seem to be staying un-spammed, too… great success! If that had happened to me I’d still be scratching my head… it takes me about a million years to figure stuff like that out!
🙂
