If you visited Laumeier Sculpture Park this weekend the boots sticking out from beneath various sculptures were not necessarily part of any instillation… just a dude taking random photos. More about the above sculpture below:
Fletcher Benton, Donut No. 3, 2002, COR-TEN steel
About this image: digital photograph, lightly modified
Very nice composition. Good day Nonoy Manga
Thank you!
I appreciate that very much!
π
Haha, what a sense of humor you have–boots sticking out…
Interesting “donut” you found, angles and textures.
Hahaha…
and it tasted nothing like a typical donut, either.
Just FYI.
Thanks, Patti!
π
what a unique angle. can almost imagine seeing the boots – and hearing the camera clicks π
thanks for sharing the link – i would never have guessed what the sculpture looks like based on your photo.
there is a similar sculpture in Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver, and YMMG (=you made me google) and I tried to find some info on it, but to know avail. Will have to look at the sculpture itself when I am there next to see if there is a sign. But it really could be related to yours – not a twin, but at least a second cousin π
thanks for sharing!
Yeah – it’s funny – I nearly included just a general link to the park’s homepage, then it occurred to me people would probably wonder what the piece looked like as a whole… couldn’t believe I nearly missed that!
Interesting! I guess I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was a close relative… sculptures seem very well traveled, don’t they, P&K?!
π
I like your image better than the actual sculpture
Wow – I’ll sure take that (Benton might be coming after me now, though)!
Thank you so much, N.M.!
π
I think this is where old (and sometimes bad) sculpture are laid to rest.
Hahaha…
not always a lot of ‘resting’ going on there, though…
saw a kid going at one with a baseball bat… no kidding. Gold star for those parents!
π
I don’t care for the sculpture but your shot is great. In fact, I think your shot is better!
Hugs, xx
Aw, thanks, Deb!
You are always so very kind to me!
π
It sounds very interesting park and I would like to take many photos there. π Thanks for sharing.
I think you would enjoy it quite a bit!
lots of interesting sculptures spread out over a large green space… a very cool place!
π
You said “donut”, and the fat kid in me got excited for a sweet, donut giveaway! Although I’m sad at a lost opportunity to snack, your photo and the sculpture are pretty darn cool π
If it makes you feel any better this thing didn’t taste nearly as good as I’d hoped. AND I think I chipped a tooth. Now I whistle every time I try make an ‘s’ sound!
And CONGRATULATIONS to you, Ms. N!!!
π
Very cool. Very, very cool! Thank you for including the link, too. Neat to see the sculpture from two different perspectives. Did I say this shot was cool? Very cool.
Thanks, Ms. D!
It’s funny… I nearly included only a general link to the park’s homepage, then it dawned on me people might like info on what I was shooting, too! Yikes, some days (and by some days I mean… pretty much all of them)!
π
It’s a bit of a bait and switch to lure me over here with promises of chocolate-iced pastries and just present a picture. But since you’re so talented with this whole picture business, I’ll forgive you.
Yummy!
Hahaha…
I know, I know… how rude!
How inconsiderate!
AND I’ve been typing this whole time with my mouth open, too!
Sculpture?!
π
Bob, have never been to St. Louis, except on layovers via TWA during college.. ah the days of Student Stand-by fares…. And TWA. Am so intrigued by your photos from the area that I’ve got to visit.
This pic is amazing, from the angle to your imaging skills.
The boots killed me! Good thing there weren’t stilettos laying about… I would have attempted to try them all on and ignore the sculptures.
WONDERFUL work as always!
Oh, added you to the YoYo-Dyne blogroll SIG. Can’t believe I’d not done so before. D’oh.
Thank you so very much, Ms. B! I sincerely appreciate that! I’ll go ahead and add YoYo-Dyne to mine, too! (Just don’t tell anyone, because I’m SO far behind on mine and there are SO many people I desperately need to add)! I’m so dreading updating mine I usually try to pretend like it doesn’t even exist unless someone specifically mentions it! DENIAL!
π
hand me that paddle…we’re both in the same boat
Hahaha…
here’s the paddle…
I’ll see what I can do with the old bailing bucket!
π
There are some pretty cool places around the STL… once I work up the nerve to actually leave the apartment! A lot of the museums / parks / etc. are free, too, which is always nice.
Hahaha… that reminds me… (different place) but there is a sculpture of a shoe made of shoes not to far from here (I think… it might be a stiletto… maybe).
Thanks so much, Ms. B! You are always very, very kind!
π
I wish I just had donuts to give away like that Dr. and Mrs. Yoel Haller. But they’re all I have for dinner, you know.
Ah-HA! Making reference to my own blog. Promoting myself on your blog. It never gets less fun!
I wouldn’t have it any other way, U.M.!
Reference on!
π
It looks amazing fom that perspective. Great shot, Mr. SIG π
Why, thank you, Ms. B!
I probably looked a bit strange taking this one, but that’s probably nothing new, either!
π
It is always a treat calling by
your Space SIG and I agree
with everyone here, this is a
fine study my great friend π
Keep up the most excellent work π
Androgoth
And I always appreciate when you stop by, too, A.G.!
You are so kind – impossible not to be happy about that!
Thank you so much, sir!
π
Excellent work again Bob ,Thumbs up π
Many thanks, Jake!
π
It’s like you are looking up the sculpture’s skirt!!!!!
But I was very polite about it all.
π
I see Big D’s for do-nuts up there in those points of light. Those boots, and the places you take them, sure are made for talking!
Thank you so much, Ms. K!
I was very happy to see the sun come out last weekend! At first I thought it would be only rain… which makes my boots even more reluctant to leave the apartment!
π
Intriguing composition. As always, very well done. There is an advantage to digital; if you had photographed “Donut No.2” with film, then you would have been up all night developing it using coffee. π
Hahaha…
very true! And all that late night work might lead to mistakes like mixing up the photo chemistry and the coffee, too! Gooo!
π
You may have inadvertently become the father of a new photography aesthetic – expressoist. π
Hahaha…
I don’t know… I might be the father of oops-what-happened-here-ist.
Hope everyone’s feeling much better!
π
Well it’s rather disappointing as a doughnut, but it’s a very interesting angle on the piece. It appears much taller in your picture.
Why thank you, sir!
Yeah, as a 3D whiz you probably noticed this one was shot at a fairly sharp upward angle… which gives it some height, I think. It’s a fairly tall sculpture to begin with – but that’s nearly impossible to tell from the shot here and on the park’s website (not much around it to provide any sense of scale).
π
Interesting perspective. Thanks for your kind thoughts for Tigger.
Thank you, Nancy…
and please don’t mention it…
I sure hope Tigger is feeling much better today…
yes, I was expecting a donut…my hubby is always saying I take things too literally π Nicely done…I enjoy your blog!
I’m still expecting one, too – every time I look at this post! I kinda wish I had rethought the title… makes me hungry all the time now!
Thanks so much, Mary!
π
Love the perspective and the play of the light. Very interesting shot!
Red.
Thanks so much, Red!
That park is a very interesting place – so much to see… and a nice setting to see it in, too!
π
Cool POV π
Thank you very much, Eden!
π
Fantastic shot, Robert. It has a wonderful art deco feel and I actually I prefer your photograph to the sculpture.
Oh, I just noticed Nurse Myra prefers your photo too. π
Such kind ladies you two are!
Both of you!
π
Thanks very much, S.E.!
I’ve always had a bit of a crush on Art Deco…
I’m particularly fond of Tamara Lempicka paintings…
π
Mmmm….donuts..
Hey where’s the donut???
Where’s the chocolate icing???
Guess I’ll just have to settle for the awesome photo.
Actually it was only last night that I told Michelle that I was craving iced donuts
Man, I hear that, Tony!
Iced donuts pretty much always sound appetizing!
None to be found over here at the moment, though – they never seem to last very long around me!
π
mmmm, donuts.
I’ve been drooling ever since I posted this…
π
Great abstract man, I love the tones and textures as well. Very nice!
Thanks so much, Mr. H!
Yeah, the rust on this thing was pretty awesome… I’m guessing that’s what the sculptor had in mind, too.
π
Speaking of donuts.. I have to get back into the kitchen!
SO glad I got the chance to see some of your lovely work first!
π
Thank you so much for stopping by, Dishy!
I know how busy you’ve been lately… that book is going to be awesome!
π
This vaguely reminds me of Pink Floyd and Deep Purple album covers. That’s a nNicely exposed shot in difficult lighting conditions and it sounds like you had to put quite a bit of physical effort into it too (as well as risking a gentle tap-tap-tapping of the truncheon on the boots for yout trouble! Nice work Bob π
Ah, Floyd… the masters of mello… I’ll sure take that!
Thanks so much, Martin! As you probably guessed I did quite a bit of dodging/burning here… but then I usually do… all part of the fun!
π
I am just calling by again to have
another look at this one, you always
manage to offer something truly
amazing my great friend π
This is one of the reasons that I
enjoy calling by here, to see your
inventiveness first hand π
Have a fine rest of evening SIG π
Androgoth
Many thanks, sir!
Your great kindness and support is always appreciated!
I’m always very happy to see you’ve had a chance to stop by!
I hope you’re having a good one, Andro!
π
Reblogged this on Conceptual Art.
Wowza!
Thank you!
π
Great composition, Spilledinkguy! π You’ve made this sculpture looks better!
Thank you so very much, Cristina!
I just tried a bunch of different angles and hoped for the best!
π
weird but cool perspective.
Thanks, Nigel!
The sculptures at this park come in all kinds of styles…
some are fairly traditional and others… not so much!
π
I agree that your photo is much cooler than the actual sculpture!
I doubt you would ever say otherwise, but thank you very much just the same, Annabelle!
π
