A Seat by the Pool (faux wet plate collodion)

a_seat_by_the_pool

It’s looking a bit dry… I might do okay on the shallow end.

– Carl Spackler: “You got a pool over there?”

– Ty Webb: “We have a pond in the back… we have a pool, and a pond… a pond would be good for you. Natural springs…”

– Bill Murray & Chevy Chase – Caddyshack

    • I feel the very same way, Red… I prefer warmer weather and happier pools (although there’s something kind of eerie about empty ones that make them fun to photograph)!

  1. Hey, that seat has my name on it!…But you can sit in it. 🙂
Love the black and white of this image, Sig. Really gives it a 1950-60’s look.
Have a great day and week! 🙂

    • Thanks, Deb! That’s very kind of you! Usually I get into trouble for stealing other people’s seats like that! 🙂
And thank you very much yet again! I hope you are having a good one, too!
      🙂

  2. It’s time to get the pool guy out there, Robert. I bet the pool is cold, too! I like the feel of this one, all in anticipation for the new season. Very cool. I hope you’re getting some warmer weather soon!

    • Hahaha… absolutely! It’s time for that pool guy to stop hibernating already! Summer will never get here at that rate!
Seriously, though, I really shouldn’t complain – it still seems a bit cool to me, but we have had a lot more sun (finally)… so that really helps, I think!
      🙂

  3. It needs a good top-up before I try a dive in there 🙂 lol
As always your creativity rocks the blogosphere, well done
on such a fine offering SIG 🙂

  4. This reminds me of a favorite Twilight Zone episode about 2 kids, troubled by their parents’ divorce, who find a doorway to another world at the bottom of their expensive pool. When things get really bad, they dive down into the pool and never come back. I always wondered – is what we think of as suicide really someone diving into another reality that the rest of us just can’t see?

Well…oKAY Peg. Way to bring the party down!

Lovely photo, SIG; a delight to the senses and the muses.

    • You know what’s really Twilight Zone-ish? I don’t think I’ve ever seen an episode of that show! Which strikes me as really strange, because it seems like the sort of thing I would have at least checked out a few times! I guess it must just have never been available in my network(s)… seems strange… very, very… STRANGE! *DUN DUN DUN*!
      🙂

  5. I don’t know much about photography, and least of all faux wet-plate, but I’d say this shot is stunning. I really like it. It’s got sort of a noir to it — I expect to see Bogart come by and thoughtfully light up a smoke!

  6. Of course this processing makes the pool look interesting, but what an interesting pool to begin with. It looks so retro. And a little bit . . . frightening? It seems like the water is almost black. I can’t quite spatially work it out. Eek.

    • It was a bit eerie looking… empty pools are kind of fascinating like that, I think! Although with my swimming skills (or complete lack of them) full ones are, too, really!
      🙂

  7. Arrgh! – The Pool… That’s a bit like having a bath isn’t it… 😦 The image makes me think of The Dead Pool and the long since demolished swimming baths on Squires lane where I used to go as a kid 🙂 Nice one Bob!

    • I tend to have the same reaction to pools, Martin! Fun to photograph, but they always remind me of my ‘buoyancy issues’… which might be funny to watch from a distance, but it’s not much fun to participate in (unless we’re talking about some very, very shallow water)!
      🙂
