When asked to join the Better Living Through Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups EVENT I was thrilled! I was humbled! I was… off to restock my P.B.C. supply. A few minutes later, after consuming my newly acquired research materials, I had a brief moment of sheer panic when I realized ‘participation’ likely required ‘content’. Of some sort. Anyway, random info about what I came up with above… below. Right under a list-o-very talented folks who are also Living Better today! If you have a few moments please stop over and see what they’re up to! I’ll be doing just that… as I… execute a little more ‘research’.

Refrigerator Magnate
About this image: digitally modified logos, solvent transferred onto water color paper, stained and collaged onto board – acrylic ‘stripes’, sanded / distressed – spray painted white ‘halo’ – acrylic drips and peanut butter cup – digital halftones and ‘starburst’ – iron infused acrylic border – all lightly modified digitally – blah, blah, blah…
Interesting. Such food is always my favorite and I can’t live without it. 🙂
Thank you very much, Cocomino!
Me, too! They are impossible to resist, I’d say!
🙂
I was so looking forward to seeing your contribution, SIG. I kid you not – I can visualize your artwork hanging in candy stores and restaurants. You did a fantastic job. Really. I love this creation.
That is very kind of you, Ms. D! Thank you!
Yeah, I had TOO many ideas… so I tried a bit of everything.
If you look closely at the lower left hand corner you might notice a bit of kitchen sink…
🙂
What Lenore said – you should send this to Hershey’s. It elevates dime-store candy to the boutique level.
Whoopity-whoopity- woo!
Thank you very much, Peg!
And thank you so much for letting me participate!
It was
deliciousa lot of fun!🙂
You might get the Wombies to do “Better Living Through Winegums”. Just a thought 🙂
Hahaha…
Hmm… I don’t know…
do you think they’d really be into that sort of thing?
😉
Oh yeah
Hahaha…
I guess it’s confirmed, then.
I’m still a bit skeptical.
🙂
Of course we would! We especially would like to help you with the research.
Hahaha… I thought that might be the case!
It would be an honor, of course!
To the laboratory!
🙂
Dear god Spilled Ink , never send a marsupial to a lab!!!! They will test shampoo on them for starters!!!!
Hahaha…
Lather, Rinse, Repeat…
🙂
Wow, this is AMAZING! I wish I had a giant picture of that hanging in my kitchen (and living room…etc.) Well done!
Thank you very much for such a kind comment!
I sincerely appreciate that!
I… tried.
Until snack-time, anyway.
🙂
Thorough research is sooo important. Nice.
Hahaha…
it’s all about the ‘journey’, right?
*om nom nom*
🙂
Wow, that is an amazing creation — you are very talented! The retro appeal mixed with the got-to-have-it-now starburst, a great job. And the way you put the icy drippings on the fiery background, you have made a candy look so powerful! Like a superhero.
And you are very kind! Thank you so much!
To tell you the truth I usually plan these things out a bit more before I start them… but I became a bit distracted. Honestly, by the time I was into my 5th or 6th bag of Reese’s I pretty much lost touch with pretty much anything / everything else!
🙂
I want this. So much. Seriously.
Aw, shucks!
Thank you very much!
🙂
There’s nothing more comforting than a Reese’s. Even ET knew that.
Love the artwork, SIG! It feels nicely retro to me.
E.T. go store…
(for Peanut Butter Cups, of course)!
Thanks so much, Ms. C! I had so many conflicting ideas that I wasn’t really sure which direction to go with this…
🙂
Gorgeous work my new friend!
I sincerely appreciate that!
Thank you very, very much!
🙂
heehee, you’re all crazy, and I love it!
Hahaha… always!
(I’m blaming it on all the sugar… but… you know…)
Thank you so much!
🙂
OH I KNOW,,,trust me! 🙂
🙂
I suddenly want to start singing “I got the golden ticket!” It does look like a prize I’d love to receive. Awesome work!
Thanks so much, Amy!
Hahaha… except I’m going to have Oompa Loompas dancing around in my head all day now!
🙂
So you all will be sending me chocolate???
Would you accept empty wrappers?!
🙂
I love this — it’s gorgeous.
Thank you very much, Laura!
I wasn’t exactly sure where to go with this…
too many ways to be inspired by a Peanut Butter Cup!
🙂
It looks really yummy 🙂
Thank you very much, Ms. B!
I can confirm that the reference material was very yummy!
I ate many of these!
Kind of wish I’d have saved a few, now, though!
🙂
I like the texturing of the background a lot. It captures a nice “feel” of the candy – both flavor and texture. Well done.
I thought about doing this whole thing digitally, but I always have a difficult time beating the textures you can create by hand. Well, that, and it seemed like a possible excuse for a very messy apartment.
Many thanks, sir!
🙂
Far superior to the product itself. What can you do with Haagen Dazs?
Wowza – very, very kind of you! Thank you so much!
Hahaha… well… I can overload a spoon with enough of it to bend the handle a bit…
does that count?!
🙂
love the retro look. Now pass me the cups
Many thanks, N.M.!
Incoming!
🙂
This is an awesome tribute to one of the world’s best candies. I love the halo effect. It just retros it so well. Very cool!
Red.
There does seem to be a real ‘history’ behind them, doesn’t there? Combine that with Peanut Butter and Chocolate and how can you go wrong, right?! Thanks, Red!
🙂
It’s a masterpiece! And your art is supurb, too! A neat combination of old and new. It would make an excellent add for RPBC.
Thanks so much, sir! I do like combining / experimenting with different techniques. In all honesty, though, the reason this one turned into digital output was that I was very unhappy with the results of a gel-medium transfer of the half-tone. Oh well. These things happen from time to time, right? Luckily I had anticipated that possibility and scanned everything in before the attempt, so I still wound up with something very similar.
🙂
Well sometimes mistakes or problems end up taking us in another direction, and however you ended up there, the result is really good.
That’s true… sometimes they force a new way of looking things that might not have come about otherwise.
Thanks so much, sir! I sure do appreciate that!
🙂
This takes my breath away….or maybe I’ve had too many peanut butter cups and my pants are too tight. If there were a “prize” for this challenge, this would so appropriate…
How very, very kind of you to say! Thank you so much! I sincerely appreciate that!
Hahaha… fortunately my pants have been put to the test before… so I had a bit more breathing room to start off with. Or so I thought… the waistline does seem considerably more snug than I’d remembered… even pre-stressed!
🙂
Cool! I really like it. But Robert, the Reese’s Pieces link. I can’t find it!
I’m sorry about that, Sorry about that, S.E…
I think that part was referring to each of the individual bloggers below (unless I copied something wrong – which is always a possibility)…
there are eighteen names/blogs (besides me/mine) of folks who participated in this event. It was a lot of fun to see what everyone came up with! They were all very cool!
🙂
Hello Spilled Ink Guy. Peg’s sister here. I enjoyed your picture and tried to follow the detailed devices you outlined describing how you created that wonderful montage. How’s that for alliteration???
I will be back to check out your work. Wish I had someone sitting here to show me how to do all these cool tech things. I should be able to do it. My goal for the future.
Enjoyed. Hope you guys all get collectively FPd!
Oh! Hello! So nice to meet you! It was very kind of you to stop by! And what a kind comment, too! I sincerely appreciate that!
Oh I KNOW you could do it, too, Tar-Buns! And a lot of it was just good old fashioned messing around with stuff and then scanning it in… a great excuse for me to try a whole bunch of different things (and then hope that it all held together long enough to post)!
Thank you again! Very much!
🙂
Perhaps with the halo, you’ve inspired a new religion! How do they feel about birth control?
Maybe it’s even a moot point…
everyone’s probably happily passed out in a candy coma!
🙂
The Campbell’s soup can never looked more irrelevant to the world of art. Nicely done!
Dang! Thank you so much, Ms. Z!
Andy’s friends are bound to chuck a can of Tomato at the back of my head if they hear about your incredibly generous comment! You’ve made my day!
🙂
This is absolutely brilliant and as I am a big Peanut Butter
fan I will just have to nip to the store on the morrow and buy
some more 🙂 Thank you for adding this one SIG your talents
for artistic wickedness are just too stunning my great friend 🙂
Androgoth
Impossible to resist the power of the Peanut Butter Cup!
*ting*
Many thanks, my friend! You are always incredibly kind!
🙂
Your work deserves every single
compliment my fine and wickedly
good friend 🙂 Have a fun day SIG
Androgoth
I know I’m late to the party . . . but I don’t care. I got here as fast as I could. Now, please pass me a P.B.C.
Aah . . . that’s better!
Any time is a good time, Nancy!
Thank you!
And… but of course! (Oh… wait… that might have been ‘that mustard guy’s’ line…)
🙂
what a delicious creation!
I nearly chewed off a corner!
🙂
Yumtastic! Too bad we already consumed all the ‘inspiration’ for this piece! I could go for another one right about now!
I know!
And now we’ve got another month of looking at this thing to remind us of our depleted supply!
🙂
This might be my favorite of the “better living…” posts.
I’m so happy to hear you liked it, Patti…
what an unbelievably kind thing to say, too…
so many talented folks with such wonderful posts…
it was an honor to hang out with them!
🙂
As soon as I saw this my mouth began to water. Chcolate and peanut butter is natures most perfect food, and mixed to be a lovely Reese cup…mmm!
Your work is wonderful as always, Sig! Better watch out for the wombies. 🙂
Hugs, xx
I think it might be impossible to hear ‘Peanut Butter Cup’ mentioned without wanting one…
or two… or three…
Thank you very much, Deb! Hahaha… indeed! I hear they are fans of chocolate. Sometimes. 😉
I would like to have a bite! XD Awesome artwork! And it seems fun and interesting to join with others! Great work!
That’s the power of the Peanut Butter Cup! Delicious!
Thank you so much, Cristina… I was very honored to be asked to join in! And it was a lot of fun, of course!
🙂
The starburst glint is the perfect touch 🙂
Thanks, J.P.!
It seemed like it needed a little subtle… ‘something extra’…
🙂
I didn’t know it got any better than RPBC themselves, but you have managed it, my friend. Sheer heaven in a piece of artwork. I can almost smell the peanut butter. Too bad it’s not edible!
With all this book work I’ve been very lax at commenting. My sincere apologies to all my blogging buds, many of whom are participating in this grand event! Congrats to all!
Oh, thank you so much, Dishy!
Hahaha… yeah… although, just between you and me, I did manage to get half a palate full of the white acrylic paint I was using in my goatee. Still not sure that happened… guess it was making me a bit hungrier than I anticipated it would!
SO understandable! I can’t even begin to imagine all the work that would go into a book! Well, I can… it if was pretty much image only, so with all the additional work you are having to do… WOWZA! I honestly don’t know how you do it, Dishy! Incredible!
🙂
What a fun piece – of wisdom and art 🙂
Chocolate and candy were an absolute treat when I was growing up – so I can actually remember my first one – a Coffee Crisp which immediately became a favourite. And the good old Peanut Butter Cup became a favourite soon thereafter. I enjoy both to this day.
thanks for sharing – and congrats on being part of this auspicious group! such a great idea. 😀
I have to admit I’m usually more of a salty than sweet kind of snacker (I usually have a more difficult time staying away from the chips / pretzels, etc.), but I’ve never been able to turn down a Peanut Butter Cup… and my depleted supply is proof!
Thanks so much, P&K! I wish I could claim credit for the idea… it was so much furn seeing all the different interpretations of the post, but it was an absolute thrill to ride the coattails of some very talented folks!
🙂
I’m not sure what all this Reese’s goodness is but I discovered an actual Reese’s candy bar this past weekend.
It makes me sad that when I go back to Europe this summer that I won’t get to enjoy any peanut buttery goodness. 😦
Scholar Mel
No Peanut Butter Cups in Europe, Mel?!
*shudders*
That’s BRUTAL!
😦
It’s so . . . it’s so . . . beautiful! I may worship at the house of Reese’s and use this as my idol. I sadly discovered the other night that the four giant Reese’s eggs I’d bought myself post-Easter have about 1000 calories apiece, so my Reese’s consumption will be limited to these 19 posts. Until I go on a rampage and eat all four in one day, I mean.
I think I burn about a thousand calories tearing into anything marked ‘Reese’s’…
arms-a-flailing…
🙂
Now I’m going to be forced to raid my kid’s Easter baskets for the fifth time today. I love Reese’s peanut Butter Cups. Awesome, job Sig!
Hahaha… don’t worry, Nancy…
I didn’t hear a thing!
Thank you so much!
🙂
just looking at your w*rapper* artwork, I’m craving one myself!! Love ’em!
I’ve yet to come across the peanut butter cup I didn’t like, J.G.!
🙂
Just checking that there is still enough Peanut
Butter for a late night / early morning snack 😉 lol
Have a wondrously enjoyable Friday the 13th SIG 🙂
Androgoth
I don’t think I’d have noticed if you hadn’t told me about that!
(I’m very observant, you know)!
I hope you have a wonderful Friday, too, of course!
Thank you, A.G.!
🙂
What a magnificent rendition of this product which, so far, I have managed to keep a distance from. My taste buds have yet to make the leap . . .
Why thank you, Ms. K!
Honestly I’m more of a salty snack person, although when it comes to candy these are definitely some of my favorites! They tend to disappear around me pretty quickly!
🙂
You are enabling my chocoholic condition with peanut butter conditioning. i may have to make myself a peanut butter & banana smoothie just to take the edge off. Thanks, I needed an excuse. 🙂
Hahaha… pay no attention to that bell you hear ringing in the distance! SCIENCE!
Ha! Happy to help out! I do what I can, you know!
🙂
Not sure how one can live better via the peanut butter cups although Mrs. C would tend to be more leaning towards this point of view, based on her consumption of the aforementioned snack product. Still, I do very much like this work of art and am now tempted to bury my paws into the giant jar of skippy peanut butter besides me.
Hahaha… I hear you, Nigel! I do like them quite a bit… but in all honesty I usually don’t have too many just laying around. That might be a good thing, though (because when I do find some I tend to eat them pretty quickly)!
🙂
I had one of those today! yummy treat!!
I had a bag-full when I was making this.
Dangerous to keep that many around!
🙂
I have never tried the peanut butter cups. I don’t know if they’re even available here.
