Looks like the birds actually missed a spot. Now where did I leave that glass cleaner again?!
Melanie Daniels: “I keep telling you, this isn’t ‘a few birds’! These are gulls, crows, swifts…”
Mrs. Bundy: “I have never known birds of different species to flock together. The very concept is unimaginable. Why, if that happened, we wouldn’t stand a chance! How could we possibly hope to fight them?”
-Tippi Hendren & Ethel Griffies – The Birds

Very cool. I like the reflection in the lower right hand corner. And all the cobwebs. Oh, and the dirt. Almost looks like a dauber nest.
Many thanks, Red!
I’ve taken a few photos of this old gas pump in the past few years… but I wasn’t too happy with most of them. I’m fairly happy with this one (at the moment), though… I think the details often read best in a situation like this.
🙂
Again…LOVE!!! you motivate me 🙂
You are too kind, RNP… thank you so much!
Hahaha… motivation is usually not one of my strong suits… inspiring a nap is generally more my style!
🙂
There is definitely a splash of
inspiration going on in this artistic
offering 🙂 I like it a lot 🙂
Have a superb Monday SIG 🙂
Androgoth
Thank you so very much for your kind thoughts on this one, Andro!
As you know I’ve got a fondness for things with a history… and mechanical ‘stuff’… so this one was just too good to pass up!
I hope you are having a fantastic Monday as well, A.G!
🙂
Reblogged this on filmcamera999.
🙂
In preparation for Thanksgiving. In retaliation for our upcoming chow-down on their bird cousins.
HA! Absolutely!
I will have to respond by either over or under cooking my gobbler this year… no wait… I’d be doing that anyway. Still… that… should… teach them.
🙂
I can take a photo of anything and it always looks great, Sig! This one is awesome! 🙂
Happy Monday! 🙂 xx
Thank you so much, Deb!
I generally figure if I take about a hundred photos there will be at least one I can work with. Sometimes, anyway. 🙂
Thank you again, Deb! I hope you are having a wonderful Monday as well! 🙂
When I look at this photo, I can practically hear the squeaking of the old metal gas station sign in the wind. Good stuff!
Many thanks, Madame!
You know… it wasn’t until reading your comment, but now I’ve got Hopper’s ‘Gas’ in my mind… which is totally awesome, of course! So thank you! Twice!
🙂
Yes! I love Hopper. I can totally see the connection.
If someone told me I had to make a list of my top ten favorite artists I’m not sure I could narrow down numbers 2-9, but Hoper would be No. 1… no question about that.
🙂
You should come to NYC–the Whitney Museum here has a great Hopper collection!
NICE!
(Another reason to want to visit NYC? Just when I didn’t think that was even possible – SO many cool things!!!)
🙂
That movie still freaks me out. I just watch the movie “The Girl” about Alfred Hitchcock making “The Birds” and they actually showed some of the crew members get shat on. Yuck.
Hmm… I don’t think I’ve ever seen ‘The Girl’, but I’m SO curious now! I’m definitely going to have to check it out!
Hahaha… well, they do say it’s good luck. Er, good luck for your dry-cleaner, anyway.
🙂
It is a fairly new movie. It certainly showed a side of Hitch that I wish I didn’t know. It was pretty interesting.
Now I’m even more intrigued! When I return my current crop of movies to the library I will definitely have to check if they have it!
🙂
you can bring anything alive! I love how well you captured the grittiness – corrosion, dust, and the colors are great.
Also, The Birds was THE most terrifying movie for me when I was young. Surprising I ended up working with them!
That is ridiculously kind of you to say, S.F… thank you so very much!!!
I don’t think I knew you worked with birds before – that’s so cool! Animals are fascinating, but they tend to hate me, so I doubt I could have pulled that off (un-peck-ified, anyway)!
🙂
I love how industrial this is. And that font, actually.
I’m really looking forward to watching “The Girl”, as your other commenter mentioned. I somehow think of you as someone who doesn’t have a TV, though. Which is of course ridiculous, considering all of the quoting.
Oh, man… I LOVE me some retro mechanical gizmos. Well, I’m a fan of pretty much anything old-timey, so I’m totally with you on the font, too!
I’m definitely going to have to check out ‘The Girl’… I’m ridiculously curious about it now!
🙂
I love it, SIG. I’ve never seen anything like it really. And, then to tie it “The Birds” is kind of eerie. You’re such the artist!
I think my brain is just wired backwards B.F… but I’ll sure take ‘artist’ because that has a much nicer ring to it!
I’m so happy to hear you liked this one, B.F! Thank you very much!
🙂
Ever since I saw The Birds, I’m terrified if I see more than 3 birds of any type gathering in one place…even pigeons! *shudder*
Right?! I mean… they are obviously just up to no good at that point.
Feathered ne’er-do-wells!
🙂
It loks amazing MR. SIG 🙂
looks***
*smiles*
🙂
Thank you so very much, Ms. B!
You are always incredibly kind!
🙂
That’s a neat old pump. I’ve seen that same spatter on my car and kitchen window. On the window? I need to see how they manage that one.
I know, right?! Do birds have some kind of anti-gravity boots for this kind of thing?!
🙂
Excellent post Bob ,youve done it great and beautiful for this image
thanks for sharing my friend 🙂
And thank you for your kind comment, as always, Jake!
I sincerely appreciate your continued support, sir!
🙂
Be Afraid – Be Very Afraid… Our house is surrounded by birds and several species can be found flocking together outside my office window. Sometimes there is a sinister tapping on the glass…
It’s only one of the Pigeons reminding me that I haven’t fed them yet 😉
Lovely photo Bob – you have a gift for isolating fascinating detail within a much larger object! The processing of this image is spot-on and the angle brings it to life 🙂
*dun dun dun*
We used to have a similr situation at a feeder outside our store. I guess it really is true when they say the way to a bird’s heart is through his beak, er, stomach! 🙂
Thank you so very much, Martin! I tend to get lost in the overall-ness of a scene… so I try remind myself to slow down and focus on the details so I don’t get too overwhelmed. It was between b\w and subtle color when I was processing this one… in the end I thought this might hint at a hand-colored image so (considering the subject matter) I decided to go with that. 🙂
In some countries getting shat on by a bird is considered lucky. 🙂
Isn’t that just what the other countries friends tell it just to make it feel better?
🙂
I guess so 😦
🙂
Neat picture. I bet it doesn’t give gas any more.
Probably not unleaded, anyway!
🙂
I still give gas 🙂
*burp*
🙂
WHo knows that Tippi is Melanie Griffith’s MOM???
Seriously?! I never would have guessed that, Bearman!
🙂
I remember that from long ago. Probably explains the weirdness.
You guys must have much better memories than I do…
I mean…
um…
wait…
what was I going to say again?!
🙂
The birds is a very scary movie . . . especially since the birds around here are almost as big as me. 😉
That would be a bit intimidating, Nancy! Something tells me they are all fans of yours, though, (they would have to be some real bird-brains otherwise) so no worries!
🙂
it grows on you. a cool click! thanks for sharing.
Why thank you, P&K! Very much!
🙂
That splat fits in so well here – such beauty of form, colour and texture in the whole frame SiG!
Many thanks, Ms. K! I was very tempted to go straight black\white with this one, but in the end by pulling back the saturation just a bit I found I was almost reminded of an old hand-painted postcard (and considering the subject matter) I just couldn’t pass it up (despite my general love for things monotone)!
🙂
But your rusty grunge is so organic! Honorary monotone status?
Hahaha… sure, why not?!
Perhaps an official Thanksgiving inspired Magnate Pardon…
😉
Very cool. Can’t believe you only used minimum PhotoShop on this. another example of your amazing photography skills.
Thank you so very much, Ms. B! I’ve discovered if I take about a millon or so photos there might be one or two I can work with. Then I just need to restrain myself from going all edit-crazy!
🙂
I’m late again. 😦 Also, I changed the email address on my blog and I haven’t been receiving all the notifications that I should have.
I like this one, Robert, quite the kind of treatment I like and a cool compostion.
No worries about that first part, S.E… I’m very happy to see you no matter what the schedule!
I can understand how the notification thing would be kind of stressful, though. The only reason I don’t subscribe to blogs is because I would probably manage to get lost in notifications… I have to keep things as simple as possible, you know!
Thanks so much, S.E! I was kind of happy with this one for the most part.
🙂
Inspiring and artistic! No words can truly express my admiration! ;D
What a kind thing to say! Thank you so much, Cristina! I appreciate that very, very much!
🙂
Hi Inky….nice photo….bird poop and all 😀 We watched “The Girl” on HBO about Tippi Hedren. It was NOT very kind to Alfie. New movie about Hitchcok coming out soon, I’ve noticed.
Hahaha… thank you very much, Mary!
Hmm… interesting… the more I hear about ‘The Girl’ the more I’m starting to wonder about it… *rubs chin and walks up into line-drawing portrait of self*.
I hadn’t heard there was going to be that new one, either! I’m doubly curious, now!
🙂
Darn birds. If it wasn’t for birds I wouldn’t have to wash my car as often
I swear they are very selective about choosing their ‘targets’!
🙂
Excellent piece. Great use of colour , light & texture.
“Birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it, ….” 😀
HA!
Hilarious! You are too funny, my friend!
🙂
Nice subject and image! 🙂
Thanks so much!
I’ve taken quite a few photos of this old pump over the years… but I think this might be my favorite so far (for now, anyway)!
🙂
It is awesome!
Thank you, Annabelle!
🙂
