Twain (in progress)

Friday is Mark Twain’s birthday so posting one of my author drawings seemed appropriate-ish (Poe here and Alcott here). I’ve been transferring these drawings into 3-D / Mixed Media pieces (about 95% complete) which I hope to finish in a decade or so. If I’m lucky.

Mark Twain: “Are you ever gonna finish one of these confounded ‘projects?’ I swear, son… you are slower than molasses on a winter’s morn’!”

Me: “Mole… asses?!” *giggle*

Mark Twain: *sigh* “I do declare… that boy may be a bit dull, but at least he’s plain-spoken!”

  1. You have a superb talent my great friend and
this portrait of Mark Twain is absolutely awesome.
Your creativity knows no boundaries SIG and this

    • Thank you so much, Andro! I’m very happy to hear you liked this one! I just hope I can finish the 3-D pieces at some point… I transfered them onto / over some handwritten text from books they wrote… and built a kind of framework that holds a book off to the side (all that’s left is putting something on those covers… just trying to narrow down my ideas on what to do about that).
Thank you again, A.G… I hope this week has been treating you well!
      🙂

  2. Awesome! One either loves Mark Twain or loves Mark Twain, eh? The other two are terrific as well, and the dialog is something all three would not understand but would surely appreciate, lol.

    • I’m so happy to hear you liked this, Ms. C! And thank you!
Hahaha… indeed! He almost has too many great quotes! I was going to use something he actually said here, but I just couldn’t decide!
      🙂

  3. I love the picture. Old Sam is one of my favorite people and probably shaped my personality as much as anyone. (No I never knew him personally…we lived in different parts of the country) but I have read and re-read his stuff since I was a small boy…and yes he was already published when I was a small boy. I would love to have a copy of this hangin’ over my desk. Your talent is always a joy to me.

    • Thank you so much!
This one is a drawn on (and a bit under) 14×17-ish… I cropped off a bit of the length here and added some more space to the sides (and pumped up the blacks a bit… full disclosure).
      🙂

    • It’s been quite a while since I posted a drawing here, B.F… so maybe not. I guess that means I should try get a few more drawings finished at some point, huh? The thing is that the silly painting I’m currently working on is taking f-o-r-e-v-e-r!
You are so kind, B.F! Thank you very, very much!
      🙂

  4. Your talent is beyond words to describe how excellent this is, Sig!…This is fantastic!
And you say it’s in progress?…Whoa!!
    Have a great evening. 🙂

    • You are far too kind, Mr. M… thank you!
Well, I don’t know about that… they always look a bit better small scale, though.
And I did pump up the blacks a bit in PS, too… if I’m being honest.
      🙂

  5. this is incredible, SIG. a work in progress? well, as the artist, i guess you have the right to say so. however the way i see it, this is already brilliant just the way it is.
    &nsp;
seeing his name, i am reminded of some of my favourite childhood reads – Tom Sawyer, and the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn….

this is one cool post. thank you for sharing!

  6. I am just calling back in to have another look at this one SIG, the detail that you have presented in this drawing is second to none my great friend and certainly deserves all of these fine observations. Kepp up the most excellent work and enjoy the rest of your weekend 🙂

    • Thank you so very much, A.G!
I think I would like to do another drawing fairly soon…
if I every finish the painting I’m currently working on and/or narrow-down my ever expanding list of subject matter, anyway!
Thanks again, Andro! I hope you had a wonderful weekend my friend!
      🙂

    • You are far too kind, Ms. K…
      thank you so very much!
I’d like to do another drawing sooner than later… if I ever finish the painting I’ve been working on f-o-r-e-v-e-r, anyway!
      🙂

  7. Hi Inky…I love the trees in the posts below…trees are such interesting subjects. Wow! Your drawing of Twain is wonderful…I’m very impressed!!! I just finished “Gone Girl” which takes around around Hannibal and the St. Louis area. The books makes several references to Mark Twain.

    • Hi Mary!
Agreed! I think my favorite part about taking these was the fog… it completely obstructed all the normal background ‘stuff’… so it really focused attention on the trees… pretty lucky!
Interesting… I’ve not heard of ‘Gone Girl’… but it sounds very interesting… especially since I’ve lived around STL for quite a few years now… I wonder how many places I would recognize?!
      Thank you very much, Mary!
      🙂

  8. Inky, this is truly one of the most stunning drawings I’ve ever seen. The level of realism is incredible. Cannot believe your talent; it’s truly exceptional.

  9. Dropping by via Ashley (S.E.), after all, looking a bit here and a bit there, after deciding – despite my almost notorious laziness not only when it comes to commenting – to leave at least a short com(pli)ment, the question was not ‘Where?’. It was this very drawing which draw me here, again. Chapeau!
